i decided to do a few jars invitro but i'm getting heartbroken. they look so trapped and mushed up all in there like they are trying to break free of this prison and i can hear them screaming for freedom
and is it normal that some of them are bruising, which i believe is because of all that squishing? will they turn out ok?

Don;t you just want to let them out, and allow them to grow without having to be stuck to the side of the jar?

Yes, the bruising is normal. Don't let it go too far though; if you see any damage to the mushroom, remove it immediately. Also, after your first flush, the cake would have shrunk (it should be shrinking right now, actually). This will allow more room for the mushrooms to grow. If you haven't done so already, scrape the verm. seal out of the jar, and slam the cake so that there's a bit of room on the botom for mushrooms to grow. My friend did this, and the mushrooms are using both the room on the bottom and the top to their advantage. So yes, they should turn out ok.

What strain are you using, and how many jars are there? Post your first flush results, because my friend's jars are almost done too, I'd like to compare...

i'm doin 6 jars invitro, PF strain (great strain by the way...you can't mess up with those)
i hope to get about 2 grams dry from each flush

Cool, 2 grams dried sound reasonable...

My friend is doing 4 jars of Gulf Coast invitro, and an additional jar in a poor man's terrarium. (5 total, lost 1 to contam's. Well, actually 8 jars total. 2 jars are colonized, but there both have a patch of greyish looking very thin mycelium, which my friend suspects is cobweb mold. She still has these, and will see what happens to them...)

3 of the 4 jars have started pinning, and 2 of them have 2-3 one-inch shrooms growing already, but mostly just small pins. I would imagine that the first flush will be done in a couple of days...

The cake in the coke bottle hasn't started pinning. She dunked it b/c it looked dry, and the mycelium is starting to get bumps on it, so pinning should occur within the next couple of days...

I will post pics of the jars and the results of the first flush within the next couple of days in the picture forum for her...
