ok guys, no need to get all uppidy, i was drinking coffee, not avoiding anyone... any yes, i put a 9x9 pyrex dish in my microwave for 4 mins... it was warmer than the egg shell was, but not hot by any means... you guys must have some bad ass microwaves or something...

Must be. My Pyrex dish was hot to the touch after 30 seconds.

interesting... quite honestly I have no explanation for your results. my best guess would be humidity level of the air in your microwave/house. moisture in the air would xfer heat to the glass, and my house is about 20-25% relative humidity with my heater on constantly right now... thats not written in stone though, only an educated guess... 30 seconds and 4 mins is quite a large difference though, and there's gotta be other factors in play... hmmmmmmmm

A simpler explanation would be the model and type of microwave. Most of them use a Magnetron, which emits rf energy across a broad spectrum of frequencies. Usually some type of waveguide is used to select those frequencies which are desired and focus them onto where you want them, in this case the inside of your m-wave. Perhaps your m-wave has a higher-quality mag than most, a better waveguide, etc.
There are just so many variables involved that it's not really a matter of 'fact' but more one of specific circumstance.
I have a weak, cheap, OLD m-wave and that thing will heat up anything. I had another old, cheap microwave and I HAD to put a glass of water in with whatever I was warming up that wasn't composed of mainly water. A bag of popcorn would literally sit in there stone cold for 10 minutes or longer.
So your humidity theory has some validity IMO although I believe most of the variation you're seeing here is based on different model configurations rather than the actual principles of RF propagation.
Terrible hijack from your excellent thread, but you asked for it.

If the shells went from the oven into a ziplock as your casing mix did also (it did I hope) then you'll be fine most likely. If any was exposed to open air for anything more than briefly then chances are trich may have a entered the equation. All in all they say casings (low to no nutes) are not a good environment for contams but tell that to the dreaded green meanie! GL bro
