Daryl Hannah reveals her fondness for hallucinogens February 11, 2005 New York Daily News
THEY CALL HER MELLOW YELLOW: Blond beauty actress Daryl Hannah, the onetime squeeze of Jackson Browne and JFK Jr., sings the praises of hallucinogenic drugs in the upcoming issue of High Times magazine.
"I'm afraid of chemical-based drugs," she says. "The ones derived directly from nature concern me less. Things like mushrooms, peyote, hallucinogens, marijuana, shouldn't be illegal. You don't want people to operate heavy machinery while they're on those things, but I have no problem with their use.
It's absolutely ridiculous that something can be illegal when it can be so useful for opening minds. Hallucinogens open all of your senses, beyond the small portals we normally experience the world through. They can actually be quite educational and result in epiphanies."

HAHAHAHAHAHA
""The ones derived directly from nature concern me less. Things like mushrooms, peyote, hallucinogens, marijuana, shouldn't be illegal"
hallucinogens? I think that her being scared of "chemicals" and then a fondness for "hallucinogens" is kinda a double standard... and it doesn't make sense

I'll never understand why people consider things from nature less dangerous than synthetic substances.

I think it's just more a lack of education...synthetic chemicals don't have the historical "shamanic" use that many natural hallucinagens do, and so the average person believes that because of this the synth's are more dangerous. Before I knew better and educated myself, I thought the same thing. A chemical is a chemical to the brain, no matter it's origin. We were all ignorant once!

Terrence Mckenna makes an intersting point that he prefers compounds which are derived from chemicals already found in the the human brain, and can therefore be recognized and degraded easily... things like tryptamines, but most other natural compounds like mescaline, and other phenethylamines, don't make the cut.
I'm not exactly sure how much credibility he has in this field though, being an ethnobotanist and all.

Far out! This thread was mentioned on the High Times website. Although they did spell shroomery.org incorrectly. (damn stoners )
Quote:
...News travelled fast. Columnists in the Chicago and Seattle weighed in on the discussion. "Spoken like a true head," the Seattle Post Intelligencer said of Hannah, while "Good grief," was the Chicago Sun-Times' mini-headline.
In England, the website contactmusic.com distributed the story without crediting it to HIGH TIMES. Meanwhile, the website shrommery.org gushed, "Daryl Hannah reveals her fondness for hallucinogens."
