How long does the 1st flush usually last?
    #377041 - 08/23/01 10:33 AM (23 years, 1 month ago)

I have been picking off my first flush since last Saturday. I am wondering how long on average will the first flush keep on producing?
Peace, TUT

Well, Normally a flush of mushroom fruitbodies are all ready to be picked at the same time (or fairly close) ALthought lately some of my casings have been doing what u describe kinda like continous growth, got pins and full fruits at same time... If yer doing casing, u could try and put some extra casing layer down on the mycelium that pops up early.

First flushes can be somewhat sporadic, with fruits popping up at different times. Generally, from the time you see primordia forming, you have about 3-4 days before your mushrooms fully mature, when the cap opens up and begins to produce spores. Overall, first and second flushes are rather quick, and anything after that takes a little bit longer.

A flush is just a term to describe when a cake produces a bunch of mushrooms, then you pick those, and the cake produces more. Sometimes, like in your case, mushrooms might come continuosly. This is fine, just keep picking off the mature ones...
