empty stalks in dried shrooms

something went wrong during shroom drying: stalks have become completely empty! only the external "skin" survived, they are like thin tubes now. what was wrong? they dried at open air, i know its not the best method but i had done it last time and everything was ok...

Were they hollow to begin with, or meaty solid stems?

Fact: Mushrooms are considered to contain around 90% water. That all drys up!

they were these 3 shrooms (well... 2 shrooms and 1 abort), the big one was a bit hollow in the darker (upper) half, but not SO MUCH hollow! what can it be? micro-parasites? rotting?

dobinky, last time i dried them in the same way they got much smaller (of course!) but they were full of hard meat inside!

Someone else posted that he dried em in open air and got the same thing so I'm gonna have to guess it is some kind of rot. (This is a guess)

That happened to me on my first grow as well. One of my stalks split open on the cake, and it was hollow.
