REMEMBERING the trip
    #3769159 - 02/12/05 12:49 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Despite the endless barrage of information, amazing insight, thoughts and visions that permeate every trip I have, I am always able to bring back only a little every time. What I mean is that after the trip, while I can always remember what physically occured, 98% of the mental processes and thoughts, and many of the visions that I saw are forgotten. I know this because every time I trip I am reminded of how little I bring back.

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas for increasing the amount that you are able to remember? Would taking ginseng work? Would not smoking herb work? Has anyone been able to increase the amount that they are able to retain after the trip is over?

It doesn't work because it won't fit into your mind.
You can't bring it back in language or any primitive vehicle like that.

Precisely. Every trip, I marvel at how amazing it is that I'm thinking thoughts that I cannot "encapsulate." In fact, a good deal of my last trip was spent thinking "if only I had some way to remember this... to put this into words... something... anything!"

Alas, that is not the way it works.

I'm totally the oppsite. Seems like I bring like 98% of the trip back with me to reality. I can remeber everything I saw and everything I felt emotionally, mentally and physically. The memories of my trips are much more vivid then most of my every day memories. I think the only memory that sticks out like one of my trips is the memory of my wedding day.

That's exactly what happens with me.

Also usually every trip I get this nagging feeling of "I should be doing something to enjoy this trip more." It's really annoying. Guess I should trip in a better setting.

Yeah I remember 98% of my trip too. All the things I do and happen to me, while tripping I usually remember. I think you are not thinking of the same things that we are discussing. We are talking about those parts of trips that cannot be brought back, it is the essential nature of the brain to not allow you to put them into words. The closest you can get is everything is one, but that doesn't make any sense to someone who hasn't tripped before. And even that is not a very good explanation of it.

I've tripped many times before and I still don't understand the concept of "everything is one." I think people carry a lot of their beliefs INTO the trip and then the trip reinforces what they already believe.

That's true, but doesn't apply to the 'everything is one' concept. I mean..come on..we're all star dust from a ancient series of supernovass. Ever peice of matter used to exist at the same single point. Everything continues to exist in one system of the universe. Or..you could phase that in a more spirital, dreamy way that would make the walls that seperate things appear even more thin.
Think about it, Man...how can anything in your life, even remotely connected to you, not be a part of you.

But yeah..it's impossible to remember much from trips..because your brain isn't functioning in the same way. It takes time.

I actually tried writing my last trip down.

It looks like a monkey on crack wrote it. Then (if I recal) the keys began spitting cartoony blood when I tried to type, so I gave up. However, looking back now, I managed to salvage an additional 3 or 4% of the trip. In memory, that is. But I'd reccomend rigging a mic up or something and just yamming into that all the time, since I was seeing stuff too fast to write.

Whenever I toke while tripping, I lose a bit of clarity and focus, so I do have more trouble remembering. That, and the fact that I don't like munchies while tripping, is why I tend not to smoke during a journey.

I also agree with what people have said about there being things that just don't fit the mold of the lingual mind.

Weed should only be used as a springboard back when the trip is fading out. Pure shrooms as opposed to shrooms with weed are like vanilla and chocolate. Seperate flavours, same thing.

I can remember most of what went on when I trip. I can remember the hallucinations which were particularily cool, or the thoughts which were particularily deep.

I can't place things that happened on a trip on a timeline though, the order gets mixed up, and as most people, my time perception while tripping ain't so great.

Have you tried any high doses yet? I didn't quite get that concept either until I tried 5 dried grams. With most of my trips, however, the main insight I get is "Don't worry about petty bullshit."

Ummm... You guys must be geniuses to have figured it out so easily on only one high dose. I have had multiple high, very high doses, and I still am trying to peace together exactly what happens on a mushroom trip. The concept of all is one is easy to say you understand but to really understand it is to laugh at the cosmic joke and understand true bliss.
