these were found at the samoa dunes in humboldt back in december. they were on a hill top around dune grass and rotting wood. they bruised slightly bluish around the caps and stem. the spore print is dark purplish brown.
pretty sure they are cyans..but it was my first hunt so id feel better with some confirmation.

Holy shit. It's Trippee. Long time no see!
Anywho, I'm not seeing any bluing on those. Did ya get a spore print?
Edit: I can't read. You got a print. They sound like cyans. Just be 110% sure that they are brusing blue.

hey gobydood! danke.
they blued slightly rite after they were picked. by the time i took the pics (about 2 hours later?), they were that darker color. the bluing i was a lil iffy about, i was expecting it to be more vibrant. they blued for sure though.

the probable P. cyanescens i found in oregon last fall exhibited quite some blueing uppon handling and where completely masked by the darkening reaction during the next day or two of being too humid to start drying [we where still camping].

Lots of psilocybe cyanescens in the Humboldt/Samoa Dunes [Re: TrippeeChik]

Those *are* psilocybe cyanescens. A spore print would be a good idea, but there are many, many cyans in small scattered groups in that area. I live in Eureka and found cyans at the Samoa dunes from late November to January, 2004-2005. Quite a few... enough to know, regardless of statements from people who claim "they only grown on alder chips" that they are psilocybe cyanescens, perhaps a "complex" that happens to prefer the rank dune grass habitat.
I posted quite a few pics, but took them down when I got paranoid. Feel free to IM me for details. I think the season's over.
They are wonderful shrooms, really Teonanacatl, IMHO. Sometimes they are so potent it is scary -- the flowery dream, three dimensional folding, interweaving patterns of life...
The Humboldt Cyanescens I found grow in rank dune grass, right off the roots of the grass, lots like Azures -- although I KNOW Azures don't grow this far south. I found them (Psilocybe Cyanescens) on at least a dozen occassions this winter in that area (Samoa Dunes), and made dozens of spore prints, so I know they, are damn sure cyans.
The only thing strange about it is that they don't grow on "alder chips" like they do farther north, but go figure. I've seen very few areas of alder chips around here -- and not with cyans. But the shrooms in your pic, if you picked them in the habitat and location you describe -- are unquestionably cyans.
Peace.

Sorry to bring an old thread back but instead of creating a new one I thought I would bring this one back to try to get a hold of someone in my area. I live right by the Somoa/manila area and have only found one old dried/rotted cluster of cyans, I was wondering if you guys had any tips if you are still around?

I think they grow a lot of the year here dude, at college of the redwoods kids find them all throughout of the year, and it just rained the past 2 days. it rains all year and barely ever gets below freezing.. I think I might go hunt right now in fact..

Thanks buddy , I came here a year ago from a lot hotter part of humboldt where there wasn't any good mushrooms and I used to stay over inland more in Redding where it's hot as fuck there isn't any.. so even though everyone tells me they are all over my area, I have yet to find them as most people don't know a thing about mushrooms and the ones that do tend to 'guard' their patches by not telling anyone where they are because there are already so many hunters around.

You are living in one of the best cities in the world for Psilocybe cyanescens. They grow in 2 habitats - wood chip landscaping and coastal dune grasses. Look in wood chip landscaping all over town and also at the colleges. Look in dune grasses near the coast. Notice that the cyans posted 8 years ago in this thread have grass attached to the base - definitely from the dunes. You can find them October through January.
Here are some I found in your area this November:
Spores 1000x

Dang, those are beautiful! Oct- Jan, huh?.... shoot, well you there might be another flush again here in feb? it rained all day yesterday and today. I'm hoping for one more.. I'd really like to find some as I was out of town for a couple months. I might just make my own spawn and start a bed right by my house over by the cookhouse, that way if I find them or not I will still have a little patch by next year and whatever else I find will just be a bonus.
And yeah, sorry bout the old thread, just hoping to get the attention of people that know this area.

That twin is a nice fatty!! Good clone material right there!
I miss the smell of cyans at the beach. I love using my nose to hunt.
