Bag Problems
    #3765726 - 02/11/05 07:19 AM (19 years, 1 month ago)

I have this bag that is not fully colonized....its been one month and a week... there is some killer, thick looking mycelium...about 60% of the bag is colonized...in big clumps....I have already kneaded the mycelium in the past....What should I do...wait it out or can I case that shit????

Often impatience is more the cause of slow growth in a bag, than anything else. To much fondling, kneading & eyeballing simply disrupts the growth.

Shaking more than once, SLOWS the process EVEN MORE. Shaking batters the myc & breaks apart the network it is trying to knit togather.

Fastest bag growth I ever had was placing the bag bottom 3/4 in a container. So myc had steady undisturbed suroundings, to do it's thing in.

Give it more time & LEAVE it undisturbed, for awhile.

See how it does?

At some point, if you have a pure un-stop-able STALL. There is usualy a reason, moisture content to low, improper incubation temps & others.

Partial trick to bags IS, incubate in relativly high rh. That way bags don't loose much, if any moisture.

Again, give it somemore time.

Then ask again about removing & casing colonized clumps, which you can......as last resort.

Check to make sure your incubation temps are correct. No matter what type of mushroom you are trying to work with it is always advisable to ensure the mycelium is being properly incubated. This can happen with any type of grow: bags, jars, boxes, trucks, cars, trains, planes, ect .

Slower colonization is seen more in winter because un-incubated bags left at room temperature are usually sitting in MUCH lower temps than they need to be for speedy colonization.

Yes, it is my first grow.....three quarters of the way into the grow cycle I purchased a digital thermometer that even registers to the tenth of a degree....they are now at 82.7 degrees F. That's why it is so slow....had the wrong temp range for over two weeks.....no shit..
