Alternative to autoclaving for agar?
    #376425 - 08/22/01 12:57 PM (22 years, 7 months ago)

On the directions for my antibacterial MEA, it sez to mix with water, then autoclave for 45mins @15psi. I do not have an autoclave... can I just add double the amount of water and boiling half of it away to sterilise?

Many thanks,
IudexK

Nope. Get yourself a pressure cooker for "real" sterilization.

You may be able to "make do" with doubling the steaming time.

Doubling the water will just make it more "soupy".

No I meant use twice the normal amount of water, and boil half of it off, so u end up wiv the normal amount of water but it would have been thoroughly steamed.
