jar size problem
    #3764063 - 02/10/05 09:52 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

Canning is not in season in my area so jars are not readily available. I can find regular 1/2 pint but no widemouth. Will it be difficult to remove the cake or should i be ok? I have looked online but i will have to pay out the ass for shipping.

you want the cake to be able to slide out once it has colonized. If the mouth is not wide enough do not even waste your money. Head to the grocery store and double check.

Hehe.

Also check out supermarkets, both the major super markets in my area both have 1/2 pts up to 1qts wide mouth and regular.

And you can use glass cups (some prefer) also, since you just use foil with the PF-TEK.

How are they not in season? I have seen them in almost every grocery store year round in my area, and they run 6-9 bucks for a dozen. Where have you looked so far?

SHIT You think you got problems    Just kidding that is normal for grains. Most grocery stores and hardware stores have em. Also Targets and stores like that.

The regular tall 1/2 pint jars work fine...I have used them in the past.

Here is a link where you can buy the wide mouth 1/2 pint canning jars online.

Good luck!~

I dont use wide mouths. When its time to remove myc, I take a clean fork and break it into chunks out into an 8" cooking pan or rubbermaid container painted black. It takes a few days for the myc to recover after the shock, but it will be all good.

IMO you should just break it up and case it.
