Never played with Tyvek myself. I'd suggest 1/4" Poly Fill holes topped with a coffee filter or two.

You must have got some nute water on the outside, that is the only way it could happen.,

I would clean off your jars good.

I've had that problem. If you shake when they are just done cooking, sometimes some nutritious water gets on the filter. An easy solutions is to get a paper towel, dab some bleach on it, and give the filters a quick swipe with it every other day or so. This completely solved any problems I had with it.

I used polyfill-filled hole in the top of my lid, covered w/ 2 coffee filters back in my day of using jars.

You should check out autoclavable bags from www.mycosupply.com
