Looking for some punk rock
    #3761744 - 02/10/05 12:30 PM (18 years, 3 months ago)

I was really into punk back in the day. I still kind of am. I was watching "Adult Swim" on the Cartoon Network and I heard a song that caught my ear. It was a really simple and fast song where a guy was saying all of the names of the shows on Adult Swim. He was going, "Sealab, Family guy, Futurama, etc..." That is the kind of punk rock I am looking for. Non-pretentious, non-political, non-poppy, slightly amateurish, fast, and in your face. Anybody have any suggestions?

I have Suicidal Tendencie's first album.  It is good.  I also used to have a bunch of Subhumans.  I got bored of them.  I am checking out JFA right now.  Skate punk from the 80's

I'm not much into emo/screamo/"new" hardcore(that's what it sounds like). Those bands that put a lot of hooks into their music and all of a sudden scream for no reason don't really turn me on. I'll listen to some more of their stuff though.

"Bad Brains" is great. Try the songs "How low can a punk get?" and "Sail'n on"

Specifically for that kind of punk you described "Tv Party" and "Six Pack" by "Black Flag"

Also anything by "The Descendents"(amazing) although specifically "I Like Food"

So then you had good taste back in the day. What kind of punk are looking for since it seems you have a decent collection? Punk like what i suggested but being made now, because i haven't heard any really good punk lately. That's one of the reasons i predominantly listen to rap now.

listen to the dwarves. now

I had the double album of "Thank Heaven for Little Girls" and "Sugar" something.  It was ok.  I listened to some of their earlier faster stuff.  Some of it was funny but some of it was overly offensive.  I outgrew bands who sing about the "backseat of their car".   I haven't given all of their earlier stuff a listen.  I've heard snippets of Blood, Guts, and Pussy though.

descendents

those two do not go together.

descendents may not be blink 182, but they are still "pop punk"...not that there's anything wrong with that. some of their songs though, "nothing with you", "i wont let me" and "i'm the one", in particular, are horribly gay and emotional. sadly, people like these songs.

i recommend the following (to those looking for good *newer* punk music)..

pulley
dropkick murphys
social distortion
flogging molly
bad religion
propagandhi
nofx
less than jake
voodoo glow skulls (these guys are ska, but whatever)
rancid
mudhoney
the hives ("garage rock/punk", but again, whatever)
the offspring
and of course that band everyone knows...green day.

edit: yes, some of this is pretty poppy, but those music snob people are annoying. fuck you mr. stuck-up indie guy!

i used to listen to punk for a while. fifteen was one of my favorite bands, still is actually. there not really fast but the lyrics are amazing. you'll have to get used to Jeff Ott's voice, different but powerful.

Bouncing Souls had to be the most boring punk band I've seen live. The singer basically slouched over the mic the whole time and didn't move. They have some good tunes though.

i was the punk king man. I know about the most obnoxious punk bands that were around in the 80s. Listen to "disorder" "chaos uk". i was never really into the american "black flag" "bad brains" thing. i was a real punk back in the day, and i straight up listen to dudes with 2 feet long dirty ass mohawks. dudes that had doc marins laced tight with skin tight plad pants tucked underneath the boots, and i actualy was one of tho kids wit the foor long green mohaks and skin tight pants with docs.

-DUDES WITH CONVERSE WITH TIGHT PINK SHIRTS ARENT PUNK!!

-DUDES WITH HOLES IN THE SHIRTS AND MISSING TEETH AND DUDES THAT ARE SO DIRTY YOU DONT WANT TO BE NEXT TO THEM ARE PUNK!

there was nothing pretty about the real punk scene, that why it was so beuitful
