I've been hearing a lot about them, so I decided that I am going to go out and get one of their CDs. It looks like they have quite a few, so which one would you recommend for someone who is new to their music?

I would go to some websites and download some shows
www.deadshow.com www.nugs.net www.gdlive.com
also you can go to bt.etree.org (though I haven't been there in along while, so I don't know if it's still working).

Thats so very true. And you should also check out the Grateful Dead movie. It's coming to theaters June 25th here in Memphis.

Go with the live stuff, American Beauty is good as is Workingmans Dead......but the true sound and spirit of the Dead is only captured on live recordings of their shows.

Ladies And Gentleman The Grateful Dead
was my first GD cd and it blew my mind. Its still one of my most played CDs.
If your looking for a studio album try American Beauty or something, everyone I know seems to love it.

no, its a show from '71 at the filmore east....
my first album (and still fav) was "one from the vault" tho. dont get the greatest hits CDs, they're ok but just the thought of a GD greatest hit CD is lame.
or maybe im just anti-greatest hits compilations.

Everybody's building the big ships and the boats. Some are building monuments, others jotting down notes. Everybody's in despair, every girl and boy, But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here everybody's gonna jump for joy.
Come all without, come all within. You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn.
Now I like to do just like the rest, I like my sugar sweet. But guarding fumes and making haste, it ain't my cup of meat. Everybody's just standing around 'neath the trees feeding pigeons on a limb. But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here, all the pigeons gonna run to him.
Come all without, come all within. You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn.
A cat's meow and a cow's moo, I can't recite 'em all. Just tell me where it hurts and I'll tell you who to call. Nobody can get any sleep, there's someone on everybody's toes. But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here, everybody's gonna wanna doze.
Come all without, come all within. You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn. Come all without, come all within. You'll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn.
