Do you have a "role-model?" (or someone you admire)
    #3760591 - 02/10/05 07:52 AM (12 years, 4 months ago)

I have a few people I look up to. One, is George R. R. Martin, who is the most genius writer I have ever read. Simply brilliant.

The next is Terence Mckenna. I always get this surreal feeling when I listen to his lectures and his ideas always make me think.

Okay...this might sound weird, but I really admire Jean Luc Picard, of the Star Trek Enterprise. OH my god, he kicks so much ass! He has so much honor and integrity it kills me...

Anyway, those are a few of mine. Who are yours?

i think Terrence Mckenna insipres me most right now.
aside from that i have alot of respect for some of the veterans here.
i hope to be as knowledgable and experianced as they are some day.
i intend to do so by following the example they set in enthausiasm and dedication.

Albert Einstein, because I value intelligence above all else.

Neil Armstrong, because I always wanted to step foot on another world.

Neil Young, because the guy still comes out on stage no matter how wasted he is :yesnod:

My biggest inspiration is Leonardo DaVinci

WTF? this guy cant be real. Amazing artist, scientist, inventor. He was too much. I aspire to be a fraction of what he was.

i understand jean luc picard!

fictional charecter, but amazing personality.

real role models: oDin, Annie, my best friend, my daughters.

they have real lifes right in front of me and do so wondeful dealing with everything.  change haunts them, and they just regroup and reform anew, steadier.

My step-dad. He taught me all about compassion, forgiveness and loving kindness.
Also Martin Luther King, for teaching me about standing up for your beliefs and doing what's right....

McKenna definitely...

I'm re-re-re-re-reading Food of the Gods at the moment.

All who have fought for freedom, Martin Luther King, Ghandi etc

All the great musicians of the 60s/70s from Janis to Hendrix.

& most of all, on a personal basis...

...my wife - she continues to surprise, enthuse and inspire me on a daily basis - she's the bravest person I've ever known! And not just for having stuck by me through thick and thin!

actually, i must say... most of the people who i have befriended here on the shroomery inspire me.

i admire almost everyone ive met here...

and even ones i havnt met but have related to on very personal levels.

i guess they all know who they are...

it seems like everyone is coping with living in thereown special ways, and we here, as a community, help each other do it safely and creativly...

we know we live in a fucked up world, but I and others here have banded togther to at least appriciate the fact that were not doing it alone.

and in the end if were wrong... well, we had a hell of a time being wrong together right?

ghandi hendrix MLK all those people... yeha they did great things for many people, but so many people are doing AMAZING things for just a few...  i could create a LONG list of people, just here at the shroomery, who inspre me and keep me going.

ghandi doesnt help me get out of bed everymorning, neither does MLK or abraham lincoln.... who knows, maybe i wouldnt be here without these people xisting and doing what they did?  but its my friends here that truly inspire me.

friendship and love are the great attractors and the great desires and the great benifactors of and for society, on a personal level... and to me the personal level is where we are at.  if we try to think on terms of groups of people we become leaders, like MLK or Vamp999 the mods the admins here, captains of police or football teams... and those people matter ust as much! but the true successes are made in the understanding of individuals...  which these people also do, leadership is no easy task, you cannot give up your individuality when you do it or you fail!  that is the only way a leader fails.

just my opinion... but shit...

i love the Shroomery, i love you Ellemysh and everbody else who i feel like ive related to.

i see no need to make a list... everyone who ive experienced this with already knows it!

peace everyone

PS... ive been having a really shitty time lately, but the people here are always bringing me back up to speed and enchantment... unwittingly or purposfully.

a true thank you.

Casil

My Dad rocks!! This is a poem I wrote for him on Fathers Day, 1997.

MY HERO

We go through life and day by day we learn and love and grow
And strive each day to be a better man
And often times there is someone we say is our hero
And we try to be more like them if we can.

These heroes are a special breed, they?re strong and brave and true
They always stand up for the thing that?s right
They?re helpful and they?re caring and they stand by what they do
And they never start but always end a fight.

They come in every shape and size that you could ever guess
They come from almost every walk of life
They could be a famous football star or World Champ at chess
Or scientist or actor or housewife.

And I?m the same as everyone, I have a hero to
And I must say that I am mighty glad
To have the chance to share some laughter and a tear or two
With my hero, cause you see, he is my dad.

I?ve never met another who impressed me like he does
He always has a some wisdom with a smile
I always walk away a little better than I was
After I have sat and talked with him a while.

He always has some sound advice to help me on my way
Or a shoulder I can lean on when I?m down
And when he sees that I have had a really rotten day
He finds a way to chase away my frown

Some people say ?Do as I say, but don?t do as I do?
But not my dad, the way he strives to teach
Is to set a good example for all folks like me and you
He truly practices the things he?ll preach.

He is a large man, strong and brave, you?d want him on your side
There is no doubt that he can hold his own
But he is full of caring love, and very little pride
In him the seeds of kindness have been sown

And every time his name comes up and people speak of him
They always look on him with high regard
He?s well liked, and his reputations never dull or grim
And they heap upon him praises by the yard

When someone turns to me and asks ?just who is your hero??
I do not even stop to skip a beat
I proudly say with great respect ?He is my dad, you know?
?To me there is no one who could compete?

And so I could go on and on a talking ?bout my dad
He?s my hero, no doubt will always be
I?m just so happy that I?ve had the chances that I?ve had
To know him and to have him there for me

And if someday I am a dad and my child looks at me
And in their eyes I look into my past
I?ll see my dad, and know that if I have lived worthily
Then I will be my child?s hero at last.

Mine would have to be my friend Michelle! Ever since I have known her she has brought such happiness to me! When I'm sad she can always make me smile and forget about my "issues" or when I have guy troubles she gives me a shoulder to cry on. And here for like the past 3 years I have seen her become such a strong woman. From just girls at school to this full blown strong woman, who is strong willed passionate, compassionate, devoted, and most of all loyal! You couldnt ask for a better friend then that. Just writing that make me cry because I'm so happy that she is my best friend. She has come through so much in her life and still looks foward to living her life day by day. I can only try to be as great a friend to her as she is to me! I love her with everything I am. There couldnt be a better role-modle then she.

My cousin John.
He's just the bomb.
He is super charismatic.
Best fighter, i have ever known.
Can out party anyone.
can drive more fucked up than anyone i have ever seen in my life (i know its wrong, but i'v seen him do it countless times, and hasn't gotten so much as a DWI yet.)
Knows that the important thing in life is happyness.
Has the same moral beliefs as me, only stronger.

i really miss that fool. Haven't seen him in 4 years.
