blue cold cathode light from computer ok for fruiting?
    #3758885 - 02/09/05 11:31 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I want to use a blue cold cathode light from my computer case for my
fruiting chamber. I think it is uv or to the likes because my clear green fans light up in the light of this cold cathode. Is this type of light ok for fruiting mushrooms or will it harm them?

any reason for wanting to use this? I'd imagin that a regular floro tube would work better.

Where would you get a light that you know the nanometers?

I know you want a light with a blue spectrum, but I believe a blue cathod isn't the same as say a floro with a 6500K spectrum

If its in a spectrum of light that has no beneficial properties to the mycelium it will serve no purpose. You really should care, your mycelium that wont produce any fruits will definately care.

I attempted to do this myself but I didin't know how to properly connect the cathode light to the 12 volt adapter, or if it would even give the right voltage. Chopped it up and it went to the trash.

yep, i just found that out now. I paired the connections to a 12volt wall adapter and it didnt work. I thought it would work because my drying chamber is just a cardboard box with four 80mm computer fans duct taped to it. They worked fine when connected to a 12v adapter...

Go for it.

cathodes dont use 12vdc!!!

youre lucky nothing was broken by attaching a flourescent lamp to a 12v supply! cathodes use an AC source, and any designed for a computer will come with a little transformer, approx 1x1x2 inches rectangular with a spot for the cathode's wires on one end and a normal molex (for taking in 12vdc) on the other end.

all you do is wire the lil inverter to the adapter then the light to inverter just like in a pc, I use two dual cc lights blue, and it works fine.
