Lazy cakes, no pins
    #3756690 - 02/09/05 05:29 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

This is my first attempt at growing. My four mycobags are 100% complete and sitting under my windowsil waiting to pin. It has been atleast over a month. Should I have some more patience or should i result to another technique? Someone mentioned cold shock but haven't fully looked into what it exactly is. Any help would be great. =)

my temps have been from 60-80, depending on incubating or not which i have been switching some incomplete cakes back and forth but the complete cakes have been aronud 60-70.

that's one problem. incubation should be at about 86, while fruiting should be at the low to mid 70's.

another thing is you're trying to fruit them in the bag. that should work, but i feel you'd get better fruits if you cased that thing and put it in the fruiting chamber... more air exchange and a casing surface promotes pinning if done right.

why are you switching your incomplete cakes back and forth? leave them in the incubator in the 80's, they'll grow faster.

fresh air IS a pinning trigger also. My mushrooms fruit very well in high 60-s low 70-s. Faster with higher temps but fatter with 67-74. Anyway your temps look like they need a boost too.

As zero said actually..

put it in a bucket with moist perlite on the bottom. cover bottom with saran wrap or something else convenient and transparant. FAn by hand then.

I meant, as follows:
- bucket
- perlite on bottom
- moist it just like in Pf tek style
- put your bag in there
- cut the top of the plastic open, so air exchange can take place
- cover the bucket with something transparant so light can come in (saran wrap, kitchen foil, a.m.)

nb: dont 4get to fan, wave over it (lol take saran wrap away) with a piece of cardboard or a book or whatever.

nnb: how is moistire content?

alright sounds like a plan mushroomfriend. i won't be able to set this up till friday. there appears to be a bit of moisture left in each of the bags, some beads on top of the myc. i'm not actually near my set up but i remember one of the cakes halted colonizing on one side and another look completely colonized except the bottom, any tips?

not really better, the cake itself let it be covered in plastic the rest of plastic roll down or cut away

i have perused the pf tek for simple minds and i see exactly what you are telling me. although i don't see an explanation of the moistened perlite. do you purchase it that way or moisten it yourself?
