I use those compact flouros for pinning too. They work great. Don't get the "warm" light spectrum. The "cool" ones have more blue in them.

If you can find it, you are looking for 6500K color spectrum. That is a low intensity noon sun spectrum with strong blues and mild UV. (Not a UVA/UVB lamp and not a blacklight.)
You can get those as low as 5W, which throw even less heat and is the brightness of a 25W light bulb. (Ideal light source for energy efficiency. Just don't put them directly inside a high humidity area, as they run off high voltage and are sensitive to moisture. Some people still throw them in the chamber and end up buying 6 lights a year!)

8 X 5W bulbs = 40W of power consumption, and will easily light 8 fruiting chambers at seporate locations.
One 12" T8 (Fishtank bulb) is 35W and will have a hard time lighting 8 seporate fruiting chambers.
NOTE: They also sell light bulb adaptors that you can hook onto one wire and make a long chain out of. So you don't have 8 seporate plugs. Just plug that one plug into a timer and unscrew the bulbs to any chambers that are not operating at that time.

A 13 Watt lightbulb is the same as a 13 W heater. Depending on the size, insulation, and outside temp or your terrarium this might be the only heat source you'll need to optimal temperatures. Lowes has some good insulation you can wrap around your grow chamber so it'll use less power and won't heat up the house as much.

Sure, but check the color temperature. Ideal is 6500K, and I suspect your flowering fluorescent runs around 3000K or so. RR

I think the recommended minimum is 5000K, but some light is better than none.

How does this compare to using LED lighting? I had pins forming on the underside of my cakes, where no light could even reach, so the concept of a specific form of lighting is racking my brain.
