Cats, Impossible to find?
    #3756537 - 02/09/05 02:58 PM (19 years, 2 months ago)

I've been trying to find a kitten for over a month now, no one has any to give away or even sell.. and I've been actively checking all bulletin boards I know of once a week.. its been insane.. Out of the 4 petstores I've been regularly visiting, only One has had any kittens.. and they only had one, which was more or less a cat :P

So, today, I finally find a pet store with kittens, and go to buy one.. the girl informs me they're 169$ + tax.. because they're fixed, vacinated, and declawed.. Last I heard those things cost about a hundred dollars to have done, and I don't want a declawed cat, either.. as well, my aunt gets a special rate with the vet, so itd be even cheaper.. So what the fuck? Is it just me or is that a little insane.. The kittens are not pure bred by any means.. just regular little kittys.

I'm going to try again to find the spca, This is getting crazy.  :smirk:

I've got a cat, and I do love her so. She comes with me on my 'trips'. Ah she's so warm and fluffy. Stinks though.

We got our cat from the Cat Action Trust (abbreviate it, and marvel at the wit). She had been abandoned and was found under a bush, and had been (forced to?) eat matchsticks, because they were found in her poo. To this day, she has never had a 'normal' crap. It's always runny.

you cant find your local human society? do you have a petsmart in your area? they often work with the humane society and adopt animals.

This is called a recursive acronym, like GNU (GNU Not Unix) or PHP (PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor); fairly common.

I can't find a kitten either. I called both of the pet stores (in 45min radius) and the humane society, not to mention PetCo.

everyone wants kittens
but they overlook all the nice, kind slightly older cats have no home and no future...I dont get it.

I guess people want a toy
not a loving friend.

Cats are often set in their ways, and I want to build a relationship with it from the start, similar to a child.

So, I guess it's not a friend to me, more like family.

check local papers, there are always listings of animal shelters/free kittens. More so in the warmer weather.

I've raised kittens before
and they develop their own personalities
(unless, of course, something extreme happens).

I've adopted older cats before
and they have their own personalities.

I dont see the difference.

the most affectionate and friendly cat I ever had
was a 3 year old stray that I adopted.
my friend has a cat that she's had since it was a kitten
and it is a psychocat.

kittens always get adopted, that's why you cant find any.
I like knowing I saved a cat's life.
good karma.

good luck

honestly, but sadly...

this is a quasi-rant:

wait until april or may, when all those little kittens that were purchased for christmas are found to be nothing but little heathens that need their insides clipped for a lot of money and there nails pulled out so they don't scratch the 4-year old brat who's puling on it's tail and grabbing clumps of fur with it's fat toddler hands.  then check the shelters and classifieds   they'll still be kittens when they're given up or abandoned in a paper bag at the side of the road.  i know that sounds rough, but some people have NO respect for animals!

ok done with quasi-rant now.

Good Luck and when you get that kitten POST SOME PICS!

I've volunteered for the animal shelter at a petsmart store. Adopters still pay $100+ for vet visits, immunizations, de-worming, etc.

check the classified section of your local newspaper. they usually have
more dogs and hamsters and sugar gliders and chinchillas and stotes
and pelicans and raccoons than kittens, but sometimes you get lucky.

Ha HA!! I'm going to make you jealous! I found my cat (no, mind you, *kitten* (yes, a tiny, cuddly, helpless ball 'o fluff *kitten*) outside, in a snowstorm. I was just moving my belongings from my old apartment to another, and heard this sound like the wind howling. But not just the wind howling, somehting more hwoling than just the wind. I traced the sound to its source, and found... a kitten.

Aren't you jealous?

I fed him tuna and kept him forever.

and that pet store sounds lame, to charge so much, and to de-claw... that's mean... but they do that so people dont buy them cheap and sell them to labs for testing... apparently it's a big buisness to do that, get free kittens, then sell them to labs.... so by charging for the fixin's and the shots, which labs dont want, then thier damaging the product.... that and it's a good sales pitch....

apparently, the people are really tricky when they get cats, cause they'll even bring thier kids along when picking em up.... it's sick

There are TONS of cats in the animal shelters where I am.

Jared, you're not that far from me.  I'll go adopt a little kitty for you if you come to Pembroke to pick him up.  I vist the shelters often looking for my cat, Minoo, who ran away.  :frown:  They just brought in a litter of sweet little black kitties.

I wish I could take them all home.

i didn't read any of the thread, but...

ADOPT ONE! There are thousands of animals killed every day in the U.S. because shelters are BEYOND over-over-over-populated. Please adopt, and spay/neuter the animal! I saw at least 60 cats today combined from the two shelters i visited to find a new dog.

btw, here's my new guy :

I agree w/ all the shelter comments. I work for the SPCA out here and they're always looking for people to foster kittens that are to young to spay/neuter and if you foster and want to keep one you can. But also, don't rule out an older cat. They are just as wonderful as kittens and often much better in many ways. I don't know where you're located, but if I can help you find a shelter let me know.

funny story... I was getting a ride back to my house from my friend one night. So were going along and the garage door to this house opens up on our right and this cat just bolts straight out of it. Well my friend nails the fucking thing. Then we realize that the fucking garage door opened cause the guy that lived there was driving at us from the opposite direction to park in his garage and he just saw his cat get run over by our fucking car. We just start laughing and laughing cause at the time we thought it was pretty damn funny. Well it gets better. No less than a weak later i go outside of my house and see my cat(which i loved dearly) laying on the cement facing away from me. I start calling its name while walking towards her when i notice she wasn't moving much. Well you guessed it when i got close enough i realized her head had been run over by someones car. Now if thats not karma i don't know what is.
