Puerto Rican germinating question
    #3755741 - 02/09/05 01:27 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

I searched through the posts and found out that puerto rican's can be a tough strain sometimes. This is my second strain and my 3rd grow. I thought pr's would be good because of their fast colonization rates, but i didnt know they would be hard. Anyway its been like 5 days since I inoculated my jars and there still is no germination. I think that mabe my jars have been incubating too hot. Although the temp says 84, the jars feel a little warmer. I had a heat pad under a plastic tupperware and I had the jars in the tupperware. I had a towel under the jars, but it felt kinda warm. Do you think I ruined my jars by doing that?

You should be fine man, just have some patience.  I innoced my rye with PR 5 days ago too, temp constant 82.  Just make sure they're not right on the heating pad, you should see some growth within a couple days  :stoned: BTW, what sub u using???

your casing should be vermiculite and coir, peatmoss is an alsernatice to the coir

I made cakes with verm and a mix of 50% BRF and 50% ground WBS and inoculated them with Peurto Rican on 1-26-05 and had growth about the same size as a nickel ($0.05) on 1-30-05. I just checked them today and they are between 50% - 75% colonized. I keep my incubator right around 80 F. Did I just get lucky or is that about average?

damn I have a bag of PR's that have been trying to do a g2g spawn run with compost for about a month now. Things could be better . No contamns, but the colonization locked up on me. I am stimulating it this week to get it started again. It should have done it's thing within a week...they are pesky little bastards.

I know what strikes me as odd about this. It is totally unnatural. The whole idea is just totally backwards.

So are historians going to look back at 'The Great Cake Eaters'? Damn. That was a backwards step in the evolutionary process. We left Shroomheads in the dust. Welcome to the new age of Vermheads.

I ONLY STUDY legal, edible mushrooms and mycology. Any mention of any other kind of mushroom is purely fictional, and pictures are ripped from the internet. I do not grow mushrooms!
