Mycelium culture techniques. Karo or malt extract

Which do you think works better using karo and water or using malt extract powder with water?

malt extract works better in my experience but corn syrups are easier to find

Prisoner is right. Agar also swears by malt extract. That's two really good growers recommending malt extract. I'd go with it if you can find it. If not, I've used karo and can say it works fine.

I use 50/50 combo of light dry malt & dry dextrose (not karo).

Both can be had at any home brew & wine making supply place (look in phone book for one nearby). Pound of each runs about $6 or $7 total & gives you enough for gallons & gallons of solution.
