Has America done anything right?
    #3750015 - 02/08/05 06:03 AM (19 years, 1 month ago)

I'm curious, there are numbnuts from all over the world that believe Americans in general and/or our government in specific are evil and do nothing but detract from the world community. I'm not naive enough to think that every single thing we (America) has done is correct. With this being said, is there anything in recent years that America has contributed to the world? I realize the opinions on this site make up probably less the 10% of reality, after all Bush was supposed to get crushed by Kerry, Nader and Badnarik according to the polls in this forum. I'm Serious, if someone with absolutely no knowledge of the United States (and there's many on this site that fit this description) were to come into this forum they would get the impression that the United States contributes nothing, only kills, and enslaves it's people.

Your thoughts?

Yes they have contributing doing right stuff!

They aknowledged Skopje under the name Macedonia causing lots of unrest to Greece...Ummm hang on that was a bad move..

They bombed Balkan Areas with depleted uranium and their so called "smart guidance systems" hit cemeteries and churches...Here in Greece we will see the consequences of this actions in a deacade or two..Um...that was bad too...

THey got this Saddam guy, gave him atropine (have you SEEN him in the video?) and they found out that he own NO WEAPONS OF MASS destructions. They "freed" iraqis though and now they live free and happy (its a tottal coincidence that they occupy a place with high petrol reserves)...Hng on a minute! Thats bad too!

Well,at least they raid all those bad drug people that corrupt the youth, turn black people into raping white pure women and make us feel safe that if they mess the adress of a drug supplier up or if they falsly believe you are dealing drugs they wll bust your door down ,shooting whoever comes to see whats that noise (including children).Whoops...thats bad too!

America has tested Nuke even at its own grounds like Nevada ,not giving a fuck if the wind blows the fallout over american citizens, showing their determination to protect everyone.Well....um....thiz iz not zo good, noooo?

America fights for our freedom, and im sure that if Greece faces trouble America will come running to save us! Well,in my wettest dreams!

Oh okay,enough with the mockery!

America has offered alot ! It has been a standard of respecting and fighting for truth, freedom and against opression. It has offered the world freedom of speech! And yes, they accepted that beautiful present from the French ,THe statue of Libery ,which is rumored that this Hot French Lady is COMPLETELY NAKED underneath her cloack! (Just go underneath her rode and you will see the biggest gapping hole you have ever seen in your life!)

(Anyway,i have nothing against American people.Im tottaly against Americas goverment as well as Greek goverment)

I think we have contributed alot. By not signing the kyoto agreement we have probably spurned more onto the issue of global warming than otherwise. We got rid of saddam who was a POS, and we did it in a horrible fassion, but whatever, none of us will remember in 10 years. We created the neocon and thats something new, something terrible in my oppinion but whatever, something else will balance it out.

America was the first nation to have a Constitution. Modern liberal democracies owe that legacy to America. America leads the world in private charity donations. America has a history of being the land of opportunity, where poor immigrants could come with pennies to their name and become middle-class within a generation. I think these things out to count for something.

Internet does not equal World Wide Web.

What has any nation really "Contributed" ? If people are saying that America hasn't contributed much, or anything, then other nations must be contributing nothing at all. Can I list how much money we've given to needy nations?

"America, the People" as a group has contributed quite a lot to the world, yes, but "America, the Government" is quite obviously only concerned about ONE thing:

themselves.

Yes as a soldier that served in Iraq I can tell you that aside from the bombing and the shootings that occur on a daily basis: that is broadcast on TV like its the fucking Superbowl. There are things you don't ever get to see. You don't get to see the soldiers playing with the Iraq kids, handing out food, reading them books, taking them on convoys, trying to instill American values into there "Soul".In hopes that one day this younger generation will remember the things we did for them. "Our youth is the future"  That is just my perspective from down range.

Being home... every time i watch Pres. Bush I want to hurl. I remember i was at Baghdad INTl Airport one day in line to get some rations for dinner when I noticed the man next to me reading a newspaper. Usually its not a big deal there is not much to do in the desert but read. But on the front page it had this big photo of good ol' Bush Chowing down a Burger king hamburger. I was so pissed off. The article read something about how our soldiers have the supplies they need. (bull SHIT) at the time i was living in a 6x6 Coleman tent with two real soldiers (as opposed to a shroomerite soldier I guess  I had been eating MRE,s for about 2 months and was basically just pissed off all the time. SO to see bush acting in a manner that unprofessional while I was risking my life for his brilliant plan really made me realize that he is not the voice of our nation. Hopefully next election our voices will be heard and America will be what it once or hopefully something better.

I know this is off topic but Invertigo, i get confused by your signature. You say "America...Fuck Yeah." Im assuming that is from Team America's theme song. And I know you are very pro america...but you have a quote from that song. The song is making fun of america... here are the lyrics... notice the sardonic undertone... did you know this and are joking in your signature or did you just chose the words "America...fuck yeah" not referring to the song?

The movie WAS making fun of american policy, but it was not entirely against it. It also intended to make those opposing it look like reactionary idiots, and it went out of its way to point out that sometimes using violence against evil dictators is necessary.

People who saw that movie tended to think that it was supporting their own opinions, whether they were for america or against it, and they would both be half right.

This thread reminds me of the 'what have Muslims conrtibuted to society' - no one on that thread was allowed to use 'legacies' like mathematics, astronomy etc. Vital additions to the human makeup.

Same here I suppose really - America had this awesome thing called a constitution, awesome at the time anyway; but it was invented 500 years ago, and is now buried in firm second place behind greedy, contradicting upstart laws.

Modern liberal democracies may owe the idea to the founding fathers, it's just a shame the successive US governments forgot - America is hardly a liberal democracy now. Shame once again the rest of the world is following the trend.

And maybe America is/was the land of opportunity, but in London the streets are paved with gold. Nice sayings, but there is opportunity everywhere. Plenty of poor immigrants arrive in the UK everyday.....many many make great successes of their lives. Opportunity is where you find it, America's economy was once expanding like mad and there were no people there....simple solution - get 'em in! Australia was like that too, cor if only...

America leads the world in private charity donations - one would hope so since America is the richest nation on earth. Thank god something makes sense.

Anyway I think the US is great - great movies, good fast food, the wild west is always fun to play at school and yes they did inspire a lot of the modern ethos, (that barely reached any kind of reality however....) It's a shame the postmodern age is regurgitating it so fouly.

The last 5 years have been one funny ride - bwaaahahaha

There's good and bad in everyone and everything.

Governments everywhere are pretty much all bad tho.
