I use a mix of 3 parts standard potting compoost, 1 part Vermiculite and 1 part perlite, and have never had any problems with this.

Take care

Phil

it likes acidic soil, so african violet potting soil would prolly be fine...
(mmmm, must remember to add fertilizer to water tonight; maybe re-pot in to bigger containers by the end of the month...)

Use a rich potting soil with 1/5 perlite, feed lightly with MIracid every 2weeks.

I use normal flower soil with a bit of sand. Grows reallly fine.
Think soil isnt that important. More important is high humidity.

If they are getting used on it over a longer period of time, they grow also at 40% humidity. (mine do in winter).

The plants are all doing fantastically and were actually potted a wee while ago. In the end i used a rich potting soil with about 1/5th perlite, so these late replies are reassuring! I also added a gradient of vermiculite at the bottom of the soil, decreasing in concentration as the soil level increased -if you know what i mean :). I put two-three inches of 20mm gravel at the bottom of each pot for drainage as well. The pots are each well over a foot in diameter and clay.
The plants were already acclimatised to normal room humidity and have been thriving in it for quite a while now but i mist them reguarly with hand sprayer, 5+times a day.
