Do you ever wish you could just believe in something?

It's kind of hard being the skeptic. No god, the government lies to us, drugs are GOOD no matter what, the Iraq war is evil, Bush sucks dick, the religious right is killing America, First Amendment where are you?
Don't you feel like alot of this is just stupid. I do, or at least I'm starting too. It feels like fear. It feels like those of us skeptics, or those of us who think for ourselves, are really the ones who are just being stupid. We can't figure this shit out. Too many questions, too many answers. Looking at both sides of an issue is just exasperating and pointless.
This post makes me sick but I want to post it anyway.

The end is near. This is something that I believe more and more, everyday. It scares me but, it is inevitable, I believe.

Sometimes I feel that statement, but really I'm sure everybody has felt that at some point. There has been political turmoil and wierd cultural clowning around going on all the time. This time isn't special.

Not believing, just knowing something interesting is going to happen would be nice.

I consider myself a skeptic, and half the things you've listed don't seem like skepticism.
Believing that free speech is important, that drugs are good no matter what, that Bush and the Iraq war are evil, are all beliefs with as much basis as the opposing ones.
That is not skepticism, that is blind belief in the unpopular, which when it comes down to it, is no more skeptical, or representative of critical thinking than blind belief in the popular.
In fact, I don't see anything here to suggest that you're a skeptic. Only that you oppose the more popular opinions.

I believe in tons of shit. Even things unfounded by science. Clearly you have beliefs, just ones that can be proven.. How I see it, the unproven realm of all the things we can not see, is in fact very complex and beyond our understanding.. I believe this, and that it exists without seeing it.. As far as spelling out the details, answering the questions- Don't. Let them answer themselves. The details will be there. But first you must of course believe to notice them.. notice the paradox and seemingly delusional state I label myself as

I wish I had something to respond with but I don't, you're pretty much right. I'm just in a funk. It's been a long time since I've been satisfied with a day in my life but it probably isnt due to my beliefs, as frustrating as they can be sometimes. Who's more likely to be happy? The guy who says that the american government lies to him or the guy who happily watches Fox News?
See there I go again, I don't even know why Fox News is the devil. I think I picked that up from the Shroomery. I used to watch Fox News, and I used to watch Bill O'Reilly.

believing in something isn't going to bring happiness, just like not believing in something is going to bring unhappiness.
most of the time your happiness is up for you.
do you serve your emotions or do your emotions serve you?
-------------------- Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.
