Any idea why my mushies grow on bottom of cake?
    #3747716 - 02/07/05 08:47 PM (19 years, 1 month ago)

All my pins are appearing on the bottom of my half pint BRF cakes. They have been dunked and rolled. The vermiculite from the rolling appears the same as if i were to sprinkle it on. Its now a very heavy coating. The bottom of the cakes are a solid layer of vermic. Got a 20 gal PMP with 4 in of geolite,3in of water(very little H202),60 gal rated pump, creeper strain, 98%rh, temp 72-75 F, indirect sunlight for most of the day. sometimes i put a small lamp a few feet above my pmp to illuminate the inside of the pod. had em in fruiting chamber a few weeks(3-4 or more).

what do you have them sitting on? and how long after the outside was fully colonized did you wait to dunk (going out on a limb with this, so tell me your answer and ill tell you what i was thinking)

they sit directly on the geolite, the water might be 1.5 inches under the geolite. they were fully colonized for like 2 weeks, i broke two cakes apart about 2 weeks ago and they were fully colonized.

i can also add that my lid is a piece of plexiglass like material being held down on all four side by old, small, college literature books. doesnt create a great seal but i want to allow some air to get out for fresh air exchange. i only notice slight condensation on the four corners where it seems some air can get out. the rest of the walls and stuff drip every once in a while.

Dunk roll, put verm on the top and bottom of the cake and keep them moist as hell.
