cake or casing?
    #374784 - 08/19/01 08:47 PM (23 years, 2 months ago)

I'm a first timer and i have 5 jars of brf colonized. I wanted to know if there will be a big difference in yield if i use the poor mans terrarium from the MMGG or if i use a simple casing tek with no terrarium? thanks

i myself always liked casing in pure vermiculate. i have had less contamination problems and i seem to get the maximum amount out of cakes. i like shroomwizards casing method only using pure vermiculate instead of potting soil and placing it in a large perlite humified environment.

I've tried replying to this twice and both times I've either been disconnected or logged out. I had a very lenghy write up about my experiences to date with cake vs. casing, but now I'm in a bad mood because my other posts got erased. My advice, try some of both. Grow one or two cakes and do a couple of casings. If you do casings, don't spread the substrate too thin. This will result in MANY small/med mushrooms. Try a little of everything. Experiementation is the only way to move forward. Plus, if one of your cakes heads south, contams, or anything similarly tragic, you still have the others to produce some shrooms for ya. ok, I'm out./
