Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP)
    #3665686 - 01/23/05 12:18 AM (19 years, 2 months ago)

If you've never heard of this organization, I urge you to check it out. It's an organization of current as well as former law enforcement officials who oppose drug prohibition. If after you've read through thier mission statement and a few testamonials and you feel you would like to help, then please sign up and become a member. They need your support.

Of particular interest is this testamonial written by Jack A. Cole, a retired narcotics officer from New Jersey, titled "End Prohibition Now!". Here's the LINK .

And here is a link to the main site. I urge you to find out more about this non-profit organization that strives to end drug prohibition in the United States. Take a few minutes and click this link now. Law Enforcement Against Prohibition

Thank you,

I joined as "a friend of LEAP" on the 23rd of January, the day I made this post. Today I recieved an email from the founding Secretary of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition. I have copied and pasted it below. If you have not already taken the chance to visit thier website, I ask that you at least give it a look. There's lots that you can do to help. If you just took a few hours on any given saturday to print up and pass out flyers to your community you would be educating hundreds of people as to how and why the "War on Drugs" doesn't work. Don't worry, if you don't have a printer, they will mail you pre-printed flyers and leaflets. All you need to do is take a few hours of your spare time and pass them out or post them on bulletin boards in public locations. I'll be doing just this very thing in my area this coming saturday. I urge you to do the same.

Thanks,

Dear Mike;

My name is John Gayder. I am the founding Secretary of Law Enforcement
Against Prohibition (LEAP). I am also a currently serving law
enforcement officer of 16 years. I bear witness to the abject failure
of the ?War on Drugs? and to the additional difficulties these
prohibitionist policies have produced.

Thank you for your recent email joining us as a Friend of LEAP. It is
good to know that people like yourself are excited about our efforts to
inject common sense into drug policy discussions.

Thanks also for your generous offer to offer some of your valuable spare
time to help us with our mission. Don't sweat not being able to donate
money as we need physical help more!

Concerned citizens wanting to help LEAP can go to http://leap.cc/help/
for a list of important ways to help us out, and for a downloadable
flyer. I will also send you some pre-printed flyers in the mail today.

Thanks again for your interest. We are looking forward to working with
you to end the horrors of the War on Drugs and renew and deepen respect
for the honorable profession of policing that has been severely weakened
by the role police have been forced to play in enforcing drug
prohibition laws. Together we can make a better and safer society by
serving it in a more efficient and ethical manner. Please let us know if
you have further questions about LEAP, or suggestions on how we may
better accomplish our mission.

Sincerely,

John A. Gayder
Secretary
Law Enforcement Against Prohibition

It's nice to see there are some law enforcement officers who see the futility and insanity of current drug laws....

Yes I have heard of this organization and love what they are doing.

What bugs me more than anything is something that I think about and know. There are SO many people here that simply read this and just say "good organization" and that's it.

What needs to take place from all drug users is a united front, I'm talking a huge front to end the war on drugs. It can't just be .1% of us, it has to be a SIGNIFICANT # of us.

So if you saw the website and liked what you saw, instead of simply nodding and being happy it exists, HELP it exist!

LEAP is a great choice to donate to. If you don't want their organization, there are other organizations you can also donate to:

http://www.mpp.org
http://www.drugpolicy.org
http://www.norml.org

Pick one and donate. There has to be more people willing to do this or we have already failed.

The most important donation you can make is not in monetary terms but rather a donation of your time. I know that is something that we all have precious little of but it would be greatly appreciated, I'm sure. I got a package in the mail from LEAP yesterday containing leaflets and a bumper sticker. If you would like to help in fighting against "The War on Drugs" then I urge you to visit www.leap.cc and ask for one of these packages for youselves so that you may distribute them to you friends, family, co-workers, local law enforcement, and to your community. Thanks for your help.
