Still no signs of growth.
    #3747124 - 02/07/05 08:47 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I inoculated 7 brf jars thursday afternoon and still no sign of mycelium growth. I have them incubating using the heat bomb. Do you think I should switch to a tit? ANd how long till you know that they wont grow. 1 week and still no mycelium colonization?

I would give it a little bit more time, just have patience. And check your temps

Give it a few more days, those temps are fine. Open one and smell it, shoudln't be sour smelling. What substrate are you using? Did you let the jars cool enough before innoculating?

Your jars could be too wet. Too much moisture brings growth to a stand still. If moisture is the problem they will still colonize... Just slowly. If you can take pics of your jars we can better diagnos your problem, but 7 days is still too soon to panic.

Jars even a few degrees off will take a lot longer than you might expect. Even 80 degree temps will take at least a few days longer than those at optimal 84-86

3-6 days for spore germination. its been 4 for you. and it can even be more days to see growth. now learn some patience cause this isnt a hobby that produces results magically overnight. oh yeah and bump your temps up to 84-86F and youll be happier with your quicker results.

Switch that to a TiT. It's very hard to tell from your pics but I think I saw a little white in a couple of those jars. Also, Keep your jars in the dark. You don't wanna leave em sitting on that drawer.

Do not waste a jar by opening it and smelling it.       :mad2:

yeah dude .. . your totally gonna just have to chill on it.
Ive had jars take upwards of 3 weeks befor signs, so dont worrie about it. Starting off is hard in that regard... if you dont have pooling in your jars and it doesnt look really dry , then Ide say you just have to play the waiting game.

force yourself not to look at them till one week starting NOW. That's what i did. when i looked at them there was a surprising amount of mycelium. wait for it and build up the excitement!

i knocked up 6 pf jars last thurs night and looked at em today and all have real good myc growth..id say 10-15 colonized . i think the key to getting things going really fast is the substrate moisture. If you get the moisture content right it will almost look dry through the jar. And my jars colonized quicker when i turned down the temp to 83

Well I have good news and bad news. On my jars that I inoculated little over a week ago, there are very small specs of white. I am not sure if that is large rice flour sticking together or mycelium growth. BUt on the positive side I inoculated a jar of Karo/water Tuesday and I see thin strands of mycelium floating around. I moved my jars a tit.

Did you let them cool enough before you shot them? FOAF noticed growth in BRF after 9 days.
