has anybody ever gave cakes little toothpick feet to stand on? my friend has a pmp and some cakes are on moist verm thats on top of peices of tyvek, which is laying on the perlite....he also has some cakes that are cased in jiffy mix made using the sea of shrooms tek, so now hes got some half cakes that are totally covered in jiffy mix and some of them have little toothpick stands holding them up off the perlite...just curious if this was a bad call on his part...and maybe they should be removed before those toothpicks get a chance to rot in there...

Doesn't really make much sense, just put cakes on lids to prevent water logging, a lot easier.

well...they were moved off of tinfoil because some fruits from the bottoms of the cakes were growing towards the tinfoil rather than the light...ended up all short and stumpy..

and cakes were cut in half so, not enough jar lids...he ended up leaving a few cakes on the toothpick stands just to check it out and put the rest on top of moist verm thats on tyvek laying on perlite...

the ones on the toothpicks will be watched closely...the idea is that the cake on the stand may be able to fruit from all sides...

Fruiting from all sides isnt really a benefit though. Thats one reason casings are a benefit is because they only fruit from ONE side. Concentrates it to one section for a nice even pinset and big flushes.I dont think this will really hurt you, other then drying it out though...they should be sitting on something (anything works) but between the lid and the cake (or whatever instead of the lid), there should be a bunch of verm, just like on top of the cake. For best results I've seen, cakes are rolled all to hell in verm and verm on tops and bottoms. Can't do that as well floating in the air (yeah you can get a thin layer on the bottom, but its not sitting on a pile of it).

Plus toothpicks will contian nutes (wood), and are possible contam vectors.
