Use pints theres really no difference in colonization time.
Just make sure to double up on innoculant.
Give it a try and see for yourself.

I used Pint jars because 1/2 pints seemed impossible. I doubled up on everything and it took 5 days to see some growth. I'm not sure if thats the average since i'm a 1st time grower but you need patience anyways to grow these things.

Probably if you've no prior experience, 1/2 pints might be easier because there's less time to 100% colonisation, thus less chance of contams; but if you've got the proceedure down roughly ok, pints would obviously yield more (& they've got more moisture to start with - should keep fruiting as cakes longer???)
I'd guess:(?

not if u use the same ratio, since more substrate mass= more mush=more h2o used

not i said the fly
not me said the bee...

never tried them. but im interested, even though ive got a pc now, would you change the sterilization times when boiling pint jars? it would seem that it would take longer for the steam to properly penetrate the substrate if boiling jars... why not stcik with the tried & true? ACE hardware has jars year-round from what ive seen; others say walmart & target carry canning jars (but mine doesnt).

but if youre caking, it may be an interesting idea... larger myc. mass should lead to larger fruits. but if youre casing, the size of the jars wont matter since youre breaking them up anyhow. i guess it depends on *why* youd choose pints over 1/2 pints.

btw, 1/2 pints are cuter :)

pints work just great for me, that's all ive ever used, and the colonization time is just fine. if you use micron magick filter disks you will probably cut out the greater chances of contamination that pints have. you get more bang for your buck (harvest wise) wit pints

I used pints my first time out, took about 5 weeks to colonize and had 4 contams out of 12. I just got my filter disks this weekend and am hoping this will speed things up a bit as well as cuttin down the contam ratio. I will post the results Im sure.
