Fruit on cakes bigger then on straw

Hello
I have grown a strain of GT on both cakes and on straw. Both in same environment. Same PMP. Same temps and RH. The mushrooms from the cakes were WAY bigger then the ones on straw.
What can cause this? - Ph of casing? I used peat and did not add much calcium. - The strain has been cultivated on BR(F) for many many years. Can it be that it doesnt "like" straw anymore? - Watercontent? - Anything else?
Both ways they look healthy with many spores etc. Just in the strawcasing, MUCH smaller.
Thanks 4 any help.
MF

It could be a lot of things but i'm guessing it's the straw your using.

Ok why do you think so? Maybe i soaked and rinsed/drained too much? Nutes gone?
Actually the same straw was used in some B+ casings which grew untill almost 8inch tall.

I just assumed it was this staws nutrient content but I guess you've already proven it's fine. Besides that I don't think I can add more here for my experiance of straw is limited to using it along with manure.

Yeah maybe..... Curious about the "getting used to substrate theory" though. Since people have cloned cubensis to wood I can imagine that they also can be cloned/cultivated away from a substrate such as straw...
DIVER: good Q, the depth was (IS actually 2nd flush now) about 2,5 inch. With 3/4 inch of a casing layer. The B+ though was bout the same......

Ah your talking 2ndflush? How were the first flush? With straw it a) dries out quickly, especially if you dont dunk between flushes and b) needs pH adjustment to get later flushes. Just a guess.. Also are you sure it isnt contamed under there if 1st flush were good size and 2nd flush are small?

Hey SMR, the first flush was similar.
Healthy looking shrooms, all good proportions, but in total much smaller. I have a big tub going atm, with the same straw but with horsepoo too. And the same GT strain.
I dont think it is contaminated, cause I just took the straw out of the pan I used. To dunk it. And it all looks fine.
I (but hey who am I? ) think options are: - bad PH - bad watercontent from the start? (have no reasons to believe it, but not the other way around either) - Strain is "Brown Rice programmed". - ?????
When I was putting away some shrooms today I saw the dried GT from teh cakes again, they are monsters compared to these. They were of good size, true, 6 inch in length and fat stems and nice almost 3 inch caps.
Pic of second flush:
The tallest as long as a lighter. Bout 3 inch id say. Smallest 2 inch, and the rest in between.
