Portabello spores?
    #3740304 - 02/06/05 10:06 AM (19 years, 1 month ago)

I desperately need these, can anyone supply me/direct me to some? Preferably syringes, as I have no knowledge of using prints.

Thanks!

Partabello mushrooms (Agaircus bisporus) are comparatively difficult to cultivate at home.
Also, they are usually propagated by the means of live mycelium cultures.

So they are not even worth trying?

Depends if you can provide the necessary conditions, according to the link above.

Do you have a source for spores?

How would I go about using the spore prints I produced? And what type of substrate would you recommend using?

I would try your hand at oyster mushrooms first. They are similar in needs and reactions to the psycho-active mushrooms that you find here.

The primary base for cultivation is pastureized straw with additives of rye, or brown rice, or WBS. You can also use spent coffee grounds with the mix as a favored additive. (They LOVE coffee!)

You can pasturize or PC. If you PC you should get better results, but don't take my word... Many other sites have methods similar to these methods. (I also grow oyster mushrooms.)

Many local stores and several large stores are starting to carry these great practice shrooms. (They must be in season now?!?!)

I would start with an attempt to get spores, but don't be too hopefull! Grocery stores keep shrooms exposed to the air, and contamination. You may have better luck trying to clone an unexposed piece of flesh from the shrooms, just peel back the cap/skin and use the flesh under there. Throw it in a blender or dice it up with a sterile blade. Then just add some of this sterile/uncontaminated flesh into a pasturized or PCed jar of substrate.

you can take a culture from a store-bought portabella. If they're fresh enough to eat, they can probably be cultured. I'm sure there's literature somewhere on this site about tissue culturing. spores are mainly used in psilocybes because mycelium contains psiloc(yb)in and is therefore illegal to posses. When you get into edibles and medicinals, people don't even bother with spore prints. It's all about cultures or spawn.

I would not reccomend fruiting them in the same case/cake... But no harm should come from using the same chamber for fruiting.

I fruit my strains in several fruiting chambers, but all are hooked up to the same air system.

NOTE: Some people are severly alergic to Portabella/oyster mushroom spoers. Wear a mask if you "Check" on your mushrooms, and try to limit fresh air to only what is needed. So you introduce as few spores into your house as possible. (Smallest fish-tank air pump, or only minimal fanning, or filtered exhaust holes.)

Worst case scenario, you get a lot of unplesant sneezing and watery eyes... no sickness or death will result from reactions, only alergy symptoms that anoy the heck out of you for weeks/months. Depending on how often you grow.
