If your just looking for a quick, cheap, decent PC to get you started go down to walmart and grab the Mirro 8qt. It can be had for about $30 USD and it is a pretty decent Pressure cooker. If you have the money to spend then by all means get an All American. The quality is unsurpassed!

AA is a wise investment, with the benefit that you'll never be sorry!

I used a closet once setup a nice little lab trouble was all the shit that was in there ended up in the bedroom that pissed off the GF then I ended up dumping her as she was getting in the way of my sterile culture technique! Ya I got priorities too!!!"

dood I got this used one from a local dood on Craigslist.org for like 40 bucks right. This Afternum one from Italy, no guage but come on, who needs one? Just boil until the thing screams, then turn the heat down to medium high and continue for 45 mins to 2 hours depending on brf or grains. It works fine for me, at first I was scared and only went to medium low after boil, which doesn't really work. I mean, the thing aint that dangerous and I doubt it will ever blow up.
The only thing is to be pateint when releasing pressure. If you don't, the seal of a bag can break or possibly a jar could crack etc. Just wait 30 mins after the heating cycle and then open the pc, on mine you just release the handle and it drops into the pressure cooker once pressure has dropped.
One thing I noticed was I though my pc was huge when I got it, now I wish I had a even larger one. Just get the biggest one you can I guess.

Can you explain the physics behind a bag breaking from cooling a PC to fast?

That looks like a really good one. I have a cheapy small one I only paid 40 bucks for. I think that size is decent. The only good think about mine is that its steel not aluminum.

I would like to see this happen. But the physics in theory would just be the high decompression rate. Thats what happens to divers when they come up from under water too fast. You could die, damage your eyes lungs blood vessels its a painfull horrible death. So you would imagine that by releasing the pressure it will probably tear near the top of the bag or any where it has been sealed off.

If a SCUBA diver stays under water, say at a depth of 100 feet (about 30 meters), for a certain period of time, some amount of nitrogen from the air will dissolve in the water in his or her body. If the diver were to swim quickly to the surface, it is just like uncorking a bottle of soda -- the gas is released. This can cause a very painful condition, and it is sometimes fatal.
Thats very different then pressure cooking bags.

yah its the negative pressure from the outside of the pressure cooker is less then the postive pressure within the cooker and when you open it is literally causes the pressure rates to cause a violent reaction to the bags.
