overlay help

hey all, is overlay really that big of a problem, I am on day three of trying to induce pinning, I have dropped my temp. down to 70, increased airflow with an aquarium pump(24/7), and lowered the humidity down to 90, but it keeeps creeping up, I have knots of hyphae evrey where , but no pins yet, the reason I ask is because from the pics that i have seen,some have myceluim all over the top of the casing and some don`t, (but they still produce fruit)I`m not real sure what to expect(first casing attempt), also is a deeper casing more benificial?

Overlay will make the casing shrink from the sides and most of the shrooms will grow from the sides (in any) and not all around. WHen that shit happened to my cambo casing one time i followed some advice to scratch the mycelium with a fork and break it up and add another thin laying of verm or whaever u case with.

Unless your mycelium has completely colonised (ie covered) the casing layer, i wouldnt worry too much about overlay - if your worried, give them a deep scratch... I have a cake that had nearly completely colonised the casing layer, and i still got nice fruits from it on top of the casing...

If you've got knots forming, you'll see primordia develop VERYsoon, since your environmental controls seem perfect. Wait till you get your first flush, pick the casing clean, then deep scratch and spray your casing daily until you see more pinheads develop.

A deeper casing is more beneficial since you can usually get one more small flush than with a thin casing. It just takes a little longer for mushrooms to develop, and there's a little more time in between flushis. For total yield, however, a thicker casing is helpful.
