I had to bury a friend this morning
    #3736895 - 02/05/05 08:48 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

A marine who went up in the helicoptor that crashed and killed 29 other US Marines last week was a friend of mine. It has been hard with my own brother being very close to this mans shoes.. besides the fact that we were best buds at one time growing up. We hadn't been real close in recent years but that isn't making it any easier.

He was going to be 23 the day after the crash and was returning to the USA tomorrow if he'd of lived. He would of been out of the corps in November and returned home with his family. He was a damn good person, very funny, very lively and most of all very loving.

This fucking war makes me sicker every fucking day and I don't have anytning more to say.

The worst of it is the reason the chopper went down. It was ordered grounded and some cock sucker officer miles away ordered it to guard the fucking polls for shit towns elections and sent it off into a god damn sand storm. Helicoptors engines don't take sand to well and and when sand gets into an engine it seizes and the chopper goes bang on the ground below.

How can people hold life with such little value?

I'm sorry.  :frown:  Last week, I also lost someone who was very close to me.  Her funeral was this morning...and I couldn't bring myself to go.  She'll always live on in my memories as a happy, vibrant woman.  I just couldn't bear going to a sad funeral.

Anyway...I know there are no words for this...but I wanted to say that you're not grieving alone right now.

I almost lost my father in Vietnam.  I apologize, I don't really know army terminology at all.  This is just one occasion, there were many stories my father told me about the war and his brushes with death.  He was in command of a somewhat small group of soldiers, they mainly paroled the jungles and had small scale combat.  He also helped with teaching the Vietnamese various things (English, etc. - I kind of forgot that part but he was teaching them more education then anything about the military, an example would be a translator).  He was ordered to be somewhere else one day, and the man who took over my fathers position for that day was killed.  Since in that position, you lead the troops, there was some trip wire and the guy broke it, the grenade went, and he was killed.  My father could have easily been that guy...(though I'm sure in Vietnam, brushes with death were more common than not)

I sorry for your loss chinacat and yours Adom.  My condolences to both of you  I have lost many family members in my life.  All of my grandparents (on both sides of my family), aunt, uncle,  two cousins, and another aunt that shouldn't be alive for more than 6 months.  I know how tough it is.
