 Tired of PF BRF cakes, what else can be used w/ out a PC?

I did the BRF PF-cake thing and was nonplused by the lackluster yields. But aside from BRF is there really anything I can boil sterilize?
1) don't tell me to buy a PC
2) don't tell me to do incremental sterilization of grains
I've heard em both and I'm looking for fresh ideas.

If you're adamantine about not owning a PC, then you'll just have to get used to those lackluster yields. It's a good invesment, and a necessary one if you plan on moving past the PF tek.

haha no I'm not. I live on my own in an urban area where our walmart is so small they only sell narrow-mouth-pint jars. I had to drive to my red-state hometown to find half-pint-wide-mouth.

that sucks wally, good luck to ya! maybe...order one online. might run you an extra 10-15 bucks, but seriously, its the way to go. let us know if you find another way. u can use a pc to sterilize just about anything for your mushroom growing adventure.

You can try an oven tek sort of thing. Worked for me. Can't give you any real times to go by being that I forgot what I did. But, I used the oven for popcorn with great results.

I love Pftek. I have almost 100% success rate with my jars. I grate the cakes into pasteurized horseshit and have great results. PC's are great for allot of people, but as far successful crops are concerned, it is the inoculated bulk substrate that matters. Whether it be PC'd grain or grated Pftek cakes, either one can be used to colonize a proven bulk substrate with similar results.

There is this web sight i kinda remember seeing once, but i think the guy that made it was full of shit. It was called like "growing mushrooms with hydrogen peroxide" or something of that nature. This guy said he would straight up soak the rye in hydrogen peroxide / strain it / and innoc. I think this guy is a quack, but he had some nice pics on his web sight (most likely pics from someone who uses a pressure cooker). Sorry I cant remember the sight, but if you really have something against p.cing then maybe you should search for it and try it out yourself.

You can spawn cakes to poo/straw.
