I have been getting back into meditation recently and i have a problem that i did not have before...
Whenever i start my eyes cant seem to stay still they always twitch and move themselfs around behind my eyelids. i feel them focusing and unfocusing i can't get them to stay still. Will this get better with practice, i have pretty poor eye site in my left eye but this was never a problem before. Also i prefer to meditate lying down.
Any ideas??

interesting... i am not sure if my eyes have never twitched when meditating or if i just don't pay attention and they are twitching all the time...
but i do have to say that if i did notice my eyes twitching, it would definitely be a road block from the goal at hand...
have you thought about maybe saying a mantra to keep your mind off of your eyes twitching? it could be possible that once you get yourself to relaxed enough state that your eye might stop twitching... or you may just stop noticing it...
just an idea...

try to sit down and have your back straighten up.
and concentrate on something else then your eyes, forget about your eyes, visualise your stomach going up and down when you breath, or visualise the air that you breathe going through your body to your lungs and back out.

Its easy, DONT concentrate.
If you keep on concentrating on your twitching eyes, they will twitch for sure. If you just let them be like that, it will end after a minute or so.
And if you are getting CEV's, dont concentrate on them either, just watch them going. Easy is it?

practice, practice, practice...

I often meditate lying down with attention on the tip of my nose and following the breath I comment mentally "begginning, middle, end" of the in breath and "beginning, middle , end" of the out breath.
I had had problems with twiches in the past and merely marked "twiching eye, twiching again"
if it persisted I would gently massage it and return.
what practice are you doing, is there any facial strain, or some excercise that you can do just in advance like the lion pose?

try leaving your eyes half open, unfocused, and looking slightly downward.

our eyes are 'programmed' to twitch, so that we don't go blind. if our eyes didn't twitch, and we stared at something without the eyes moving in the slightest, our vision would soon adjust exactly to the scene we're perceiving, and our retinas would blank out. so the twitching eyes is natural. however, I think the twitching only kicks in when you're actively looking at something. which is just about all the time when awake.
I have eye twitching too, and I just have to relax, relax, keep relaxing, or just stop noticing
