I've got a bug and I'd like some suggestions please
    #3729490 - 02/04/05 11:00 AM (11 years, 10 months ago)

A few days ago I came down with a bug. These are the symptoms (pretty common):

Coughing (tickling in my throat)
Hacking up yellow/greenish phlegm
Sneezing
Fatigue
Congested nose (when I lay down)

I know these are all very common symptoms, but I was wondering if you all had any ideas for some good natural healing. I'm really avoiding going to the doctor unless I have to. Usually I can shake these things with time, but I'd like some advice if you don't mind on natural healing.

I seem to have a slight fever as well...

Suggestions?

Green tea with honey. Gargle hot water with salt in it. Take a lot of vitamin C...or drink orange juice theres a lot in there. not sure about the fever you may have to break down and take some medicine, unless someone else knows something.i hope this helped

Thank you for the advice. I forgot about Green Tea. I think I'll go make some right now.

taking a hot shower usually clears up congestion for me. Hot soup is good for that too

keep your mouth throat clean with some anitseptic or salt water to suppress the throat symptoms.

keep your nose blown as often as you can without making it sore [soemthies over-blowing ones nose untill it feels raw is more uncomfortable than the congestion was]. this will make the congestiopn less bothersome and help eliminate forign bodies in the mucus.

if you like, take an expectorant and decongestant, to help clear the mucus and prevent it's driping [and reentering the body].

here's the real kicker: get as much rest as you can to let your autoimmune response do the work for you, it wast the bug out as much as do you .

good luck and feel free to add anything you generaly do when sick that you think will help or make you more comfrtable [i take my comfy quilt with me whereever i can].

I can definitely help with advice for these symptoms:

1. Drink a minimum of 8 tall glasses of bottled water each day until health is achieved. No soda, no artificial drinks, and no dairy because that adds to mucus buildup when you're sick.

2. Herbs: Drink a combination herb tea using Catnip, Peppermint, and Echinecea. You should be able to pickup small amounts of good quality, dried herbs at a Whole Foods Market, Bread of Life, Wild Oats, or a similar natural foods store.

3. Get fresh air as often as possible. Go for a walk two or three times a day. Get your heart rate going in order to get you blood going.

Once you begin to feel a little better start working out and instead of sniffling, blow your nose til the junk gets out of your sinuses.

Be well. Good luck.

Sickness is a time of transition, not just sickness in and of itself. Go into a state of purging out what should be removed from life.

Im not sure what is available over there, as our health restrictions arent as harsh as other countries, but Colloidal Silver is another great natural antibiotic. If u can get hold of some ,put 1 teaspoon in a glass of water. can also be used as a dropper up the nose and good to have in the cupboard to apply to cuts or scratches

I was givin this recipy from some friends, I am now soliciting this as the next best thing for colds since DXM. ( It taste as bad, but without the fun side effects at high doses...)

Make a cup of Green Tea, or just hot water, and add:

1 clove garlic crushed,
1/4cup lemon juice,
1 tsp cyanne powder ( or crushed chillies )

Mix it up well, add some honey if you want it to taste a little bit better, but it will clear you up quickly. I have no problem getting to sleep after drinking this, or getting on with my day if need be.

Enjoy!
