Upper limit temp?

I'm using a water bath to keep my PF tek jars at a constant temp, but the aquarium heater is stuck in one position which keeps the jars at 88 degrees F. Is this to high?

It will be ok but don't let it get much higher. 106F is the max temp. If need be, you can switch the heater on and off when needed. GL

88 is a bit too high for the later stage of colonization. When mostly overrun w/ mycelium, I don't keep my jars near that high, low 80's works perfect. The reason is: If you're registering 88F and you have colonized substrate generating alot of heat (which it will) it's very likely the inside temp of your substrate will be much higher. Not good.
Go for low 80's if at all possible, maybe the next lower setting on your thermometer will do. I'd take 76 over 86 if I had to choose-too many issues in the past at those temps.

It is a tad high , but not in a harmfull range . I have noticed that jars kept in higher temp ranges (depending on species)tend to develope a little slower , also tend to produce myc piss (metabolites)a little sooner than one would like to see , and tend to use stored moisture faster . But again you are okay , it is not gonna hurt them .

I turned up my heater recently to avoid letting the temperature drop too much during real cold nights. The tub sits around 86F now instead of 80, which it had been set at for months.
I can't believe how big of a difference it's made in the colonization of jars. Until now I hadn't seen any of my jars finish in less than 2 weeks and rhizomorphic growth was something I had only seen in pictures.
tripndicular is definitely right about the excess myc piss due to higher temps. Fortunately the jars are still finishing fast enough so that the piss hasn't really caused problems so far.

Do you have a lid or a blanket to insulate the jars? If so, try removing it to let some heat disapate. That might help get you to 84-86...
Putting it in a cooler room/area of the house could help too if this is possible.

Ummm.. I have a idea. Get a jar of anykind, one with a lid your heater can fit in. Make a hole you can slide your heater through then wrap duct tape around the cord to prevent water from spilling. Keep the incubator well covered with blankets or something.
