Both will work. You could keep it stealthier with the christmas lights though, those could easily be rigged to the top of your fruiting chamber. If you do use those, try to get blue christmas lights. I think that a string of blue lights would be better than the bulb, though both will do fine, they don't need jack shit for light, but they respond better to the blue side of the spectrum.

Flouro's are inexpensive, effective, and don't produce hardly any heat.

make sure the xmas lights r 4 outdoor use.

edit: when you dont have to hide your terrarium and it is transparant just put it in a light room or close to the window but no direct sunlight. They will be fine then without artificial lightning.

Is that as simple as it is to convert along the spectrum? Blue to our eyes, blue to mushie eyes?

Compact Fluorescent 13 watt screw in bulbs are cheap, last 8000 / 10,000 hours & hardly give off any heat, plus put out a very natural light.

I've done alot of reading on this, and I've come to the conclusion that they work equally as well.  On a side note, its the light transmitted in the blue spectrum of light that stimulates fruiting the most, not light with a blue color...  Lights that put most of thier light out in the blue spectrum, usually flourescent, usually look very white to the human eye.....  Unless the bulb is colored or something...
