I think there is another post in this forum about that. It's very sad and disgusting if you ask me. Yeah, the rights and freedoms you are granted as a citizen of the United States, that your forefathers died struggled and died for, is a little bit excessive. Stupid, ignorant fucking kids.

Can you pass it? Does it seem a little harder than the 8th grade test you sat?

This article does not surprise me at all!

When I was in school back in the, ummm, 80's the teachers were teaching that "The constitution was a document that gave a nice outline of how the government should work. But is no longer needed or followed." They summed the bill of rights up as "A nice set of ideas that are no longer followed or enforced."

Now, I have lots of teachers in my family, so I had opportunities to socialize with some of my teachers away from the classroom setting. I asked my history teacher about the statements that were made and was told "The school board decided to change the curriculum in that area because they found that teaching the bill of rights led to unacceptable student behavior. Such as students publishing news papers that are critical of the school, teachers, or school system."

i took a class in high school entitled "The First Amendment". We constantly debated first amendment issues. Public Schools should have something like that (of course theyd have to have smaller class sizes to accomplish this).

it seems we despeartely need a school voucher system. the problem is:

1) how do we just switch? if we did the suppply for education could not meet the demand. but if you dont create a large enough demand, competition between schools for these voucher students will be negligible.

2) will other indoctrination be even worse? will people go to schools that manufacture consent and don't promote questioning even more so than public schools?

wow. just goes to show you how different our two countries really are. if the school boards in canada tried something like that there would be some very vocal outrage, and not just from the parents! when i was in high school (early eighties) there was a very vocal and prominent student body and news paper, and we were always critical of the school, the school board, the provincial government and the federal government too. we had teachers that encouraged us to be critical of the ruling bodies at all levels.
i feel bad for your kids if that is the kind of school system you have down there.
