Ever tripped in `spiritual` places ?
    #3725023 - 02/03/05 02:40 PM (19 years, 2 months ago)

Yes, right, any place can be spiritual. Like a park or even a Cafe.
What I meant was: did you ever trip in a place like a Zen Dojo, a temple or a monastery ?
And if so, did it add to the experience ?

FYI: The term zendo is generally used for Zen meditation halls, will dojo is reserved for aikido practice halls and the like.

I've never had the experience, but I think most of the experience would not come from the place but rather the awareness of the presence of other beings devoted to a path of spiritual progression.

Man...I was looking at some cathedrals in Italy today...like the Sistine Chapel? The interior was designed by Michelangelo and it's breathtaking. So intricate and symmetrical. Wonder how the class would've reacted if I'd said aloud "that'd be a great place to trip."
Because I certainly couldn't help thinking it. :mushroom2: :tongue2:

this thread inspired my ideas and thread about circles... Is there really power in places like Stonehenge, and the magnificent pyramids of the past, and any religious stucture for that matter?
.. Can man made things really hold the divine, or is the divine the untouchable that is held within our heart?

@Aqua: IMO there are places that have a higher energy.
So I wonder, if you can feel it in a sober state, how much more would it kick in while tripping ?
I guess this has to be explored very soon...

the Sistine Chapel? The interior was designed by Michelangelo

didn't he just paint the ceiling? or did he design the friggin place too?

aand Aqua... maybe Stonehenge isn't powerful because man made it... maybe man made it there because the place was powerful

He did the painting and designed all the ceiling decorations (lunettes, pendentives, etc) as I recall.

I was in Oaxaca in Huatla De Juarez. I bought a ticket to a "curandera de hongos" ceremony in an old church. The price of ticket also pays for a share of mushrooms.

And...? While all trips are different, was it qualitatively different?

"Power" is a pretty vague term. Some might say they give off spiritual energy. I'd say it's all in the mind. If you believe they give off this energy, then you will feel it. Otherwise they're just a bunch of rocks.

A blind-folded "believer" brought to unknown spots would be unable to tell ANY difference.

i believe they would know

its not the circles that give these places power but its location and its relationship to the earth.

ever hear of a morphogenic field Swami?

i tripped BALLS at the top of bell rock in the eye of a fierce aetheric vortex.
the trees around me had the wickedest twists in them, some all in the same direction.

i was guided by a giant 4-faced EDE who expressed it would show me the way to immortality,
if i would only look upon it's hidden fourth face.

it showed me visions of a vast network of crystal veins that all rise near the surface in Sedona.

it was far beyond ANY trip i have ever had, before or since.
possibly because of my own belief system, but qualitively and quantitively different none the less.

What does heresay and anecdote have to do with anything? I have heard of many false myths.

Ever hear of testability and repeatability?

Jinx, who or what is an EDE ?

And Swami, you talk about testability. Well, did you ?
Did you ever try tripping in an environment that is said to be special ? And if so, what didya experience ?
As you see, I?m really curious.

I once visited a zen meditation retreat. I entered the zen garden and sat on the main (and only) bench and gazed at the beauty. Something about it made me feel so good and relaxed, and i just sat there for 10 minutes not wanting to move one bit. I was sober, but boy its got to be awesome to go there while tripping.

I don't know what anything about fields or magnetism, but I do believe that some places on the Earth can exert an influence on our psyche. I have noted various examples in the last few years. You will no doubt chalk it up to anecdotal evidence, but that is alright as this is not something that can be proven, it is just a topic of idle speculation for me.
Five years ago I was in a wilderness area known for the multitudes of cave drawings evident. I was with my wife and children. I had consumed about 8G of desiccant dried mushroom material, so I was impaired after a fashion and my judgment was not in it's normal frame of reference. We had hiked into an area that was a natural amphitheater. It was a bowl shaped depression then was covered by a large rock dome that seemed to go back to a cave. If you followed the "cave" back you came to a hole big enough to wriggle through. The edges of the hole were polished slick with the passage of many bodies over many years. If you crawled through the hole you had to struggle a little, but would emerge on a sheer cliff face overlooking a deep, lush valley. The view from that point was breathtaking. I told my wife that such an area would have been utilized for death and rebirth ceremonies that marked the coming of age in primitive societies. I knew this because the passage through the hole was analogous to emerging from the womb, and the passage was worn quite smooth from use. (An archaeologist later confirmed my assumption of that place to be entirely correct, and said that drawings indicated it was used for fertility rites.) We went back into the "amphitheater" and I began to build a large stone medicine wheel in the bottom of the depression just for fun...and the cool factor. My children assisted me in this. During this time I started having deep feelings of bonding with the place and felt that it was influencing my thought. A great feeling of control and clarity settled over me, and I obtained an insight to a personal problem I had been trying to solve. During this time I said nothing...I just worked on the medicine wheel I was making out of stones. My wife (who was sober) suddenly became quite frightened for no real reason and said that she felt that she was suffocating and had to leave...NOW!!! I tried to calm her, but she said that she felt oppressed by being there. So,we went back to the trail. As soon as we left the depression my wife said the panic attack had stopped. It is worth noting that she does not suffer from these types of problems normally and is quite resilient. That feeling of power was with me for over 3 days.
This is really little more than a trip report as nothing in it can be verified objectively, but it is in the subjective that I believe the spectrum of spiritual experience resides. Anyone want to suggest an explanation or criticism as I am open to either?

Just a wild guess: maybe your wife felt stuck in this womb ?
Anyway, very interesting report.
Did you feel like you connected with some energy or some power ?
And one more question: did you ever go there sober and felt different about the place ?
