Spring Break vacation ideas.

I work for the University and I'll be getting a week off in mid-March for Spring Break. I think want to go West or South West (in Iowa currently). My girl just bought us a National Parks Pass so I can get into any park I want for free. No big party places.... I want to avoid those university party types as much as possible!
Throw some ideas at me...

Use your pass and go to Glacier or Yellowstone National park. Those parks have some of the most beautiful country left in this world.

If I had the chance would visit the buffalo in Yellowstone... Also large elkherds there and a few wolfpacks... I hope the last one will spread out again over US. Enough food, and wolves keep the coyote numbers limited....

Yeah!! I have never been there!! I was like 3 hours from there once and, for some reason, we didn't go. I will visit there, maybe, this summer.

I am totally considering Yellowstone, I'm just a bit concerned about going there in March as weather in the mountains can be pretty unpredictable. One of my co-workers also suggested Glacier! I've been to Yellowstone twice as a child with my folks (once the year before the big fires and then aagain a few years after). That park is amazing!
I looked at Mesa Verde on a map this afternoon, too. That and the Sand Dunes national park. Too many choices!
(And if all goes well in my rubbermaid bins, I should have some fun guys to take along with me)

Right on!! Man, you should really check out Glacier. It is absolutely stunning and peaceful, at the same time!! I have never been to Mesa Verde, but it sounds cool, too. I want to go and volunteer at Yellowstone sometime, but things always come up and I am unable to. Oh well, this is the way of life, it seems.

Suwannee spring fest, the ultra music fest, ares' birthday...
-------------------- A plethora of music aspirations control my temptations of future revelations beyond "now". The percussion, and the heart beat of my love and devotion. The rhythm goes beyond, prying into the third eye, releasing the creativity held so far inside. The melodicies, through the out of tune pianos and broken classical guitars...there lies a beauty. A beauty as prevelent as the fire inside. To release these energies is pure ecstacy, to deveop these gifts is sacred. The vocality, so pure as can be, shying away from herself, lies within me. For the underlying serenitity, this is what I live for. I plea for harmony, and nothing more. Music equals love. Creation of love leads to the procreativity of the World, and it's spirals and puddles prevailing.

Me too! The huge trees in rainforests have always impressed me, their tallness never stops! I can't even imagine the great redwoods... a tree-hugger's paradise!
When we got the national parks pass it came with this little booklet on all the national parks in the US, and they all sound so good that I want to camp in all of them! I need more time off of work! Wish I had a spring break!
Unfortunately, I don't have a nice backpack yet like Gr8fulJ does

I saw Arches and Grand Canyon a few years ago. We spent a day climbing outside of Moab and drove up to the park to watch the sun set. I've been saying I really want to go back and spend a day or two at Arches... those formations blew my mind!

Actually, the Southwest has some great stuff to offer in a small area... Grand Canyon Zion Canyon Bryce Canyon Monument Valley ...just to name a few that are all fairly close together.

Adamist and myself have been discussing the possibilities of us making it out there to that great land of Montana, and doing the damned thing. We sure do love dreamin, and even better the miracles to follow. Bling bling.

My birthday is on the 27th of this month. Starsigns says that our relationship is doomed, but I like being the underdog! Love prevails all, in my book! Glad to hear about your luck in Georgia. Didn't I tell you that the fine would be about 200 bucks?

well im not up on my US parks, but i can vouch for glacier nat. park! very nice there! adn that road that goes from there to alberta (there amy be lots, i dunno) is fucking fantastic!!!! its got this little 1-2 foot rock castle like wall tehn the cliff. very neat looking.
the other place i would recomend if hiking is your game and you liek rainforests is the olympic range. it has pretty much teh same as where i live except wetter. i have onyl been there a bit, but doing hiking around here and seeing how similar it is there....no place liek it. excpet pnw
that national park in california with all teh tall redwoods....i was told there is a waiting list of like 2 years? what the fuck? there aitn no waiting lists to visit parks. are there? can someone explain the park closures too. do some parks close at certain tims of the year?

The waiting list might be for camping permits, not necessarily just to visit. Parks that are in higher elevations (like Yellostone or Glacier) will sometimes close some of the roads/passes that lead into the parks due to all the snow they might receive in a season. It would be a lot of work to keep them clear of snow and ice all winter.
