Can someone explain why you need birdseed for Cyans?
    #3724240 - 02/03/05 10:43 AM (19 years, 2 months ago)

Everywhere I look it says that you need to use birdseed for cyans. What is it in birdseed that's not in popcorn or rye that makes it grow?

Some but not all .

Hey ANNO ... this is kinda weird and all , and not sure exactally how to ask so you know what I am aiming for but ...
What is the word ...liginous ? I think that is it , but it is term used for describing a texture of a sub ?
God I feel dumb ...

But could this be why certain mushies would prefer hard type grains over corn ?

ligneous
Synonymous for woody.

"Of or concerning wood 2, containing wood 2 ; capable of forming wood 2. Opposite of herbaceous. Syn. : ligneous. Partly woody but flexible stems like those of brambles are said to be semi-ligneous. "Woody plants" is employed to gather trees, shrubs and bushes. "Wooded" describes an area with a good wood 1 cover or a woodland atmosphere (see wooded landscape, wooded strip)."

The process is basically the same as for P. azurescens or Psilocybe cyanescens, the difference is that the Stropharia rugoso-annulata fruit in early and late summer.
They can also be cultivated by inoculationg soaked straw bales.

Do I have to grow it outdoors? Whens the best time to start an outdoor bed? Just after the last frost im guessing since they fruit early summer?

Thanx big guy , I knew you would know what the fuck I was rambling on about .

Do you think that corn does not quite fit that criteria though ?
If not... would you not agree that mushies , would do better on ligneous type of grain verse corn . And especially dealing with cyans ?

Sorry to make you do all that leg work getting a dictionary deff and all , but I was not even certain I had term close enough to mention it . Again many thanx !

Speaking of Psilocybe cyanescens now:

For first generation spawn, you want something that has many inoculation points and is nutritious. I then spawn this first spawn to sterilized wood chips, and after colonized inoculate outdoor beds with this.

As for Sra, no, you don't have to grow it outdoors, you can grow it indoors too.
If you grow it outdoors, spawn the outdoor chips beds/straw in early spring.

Aren't Cyans only able to be fruited from Poo?

A foaf used wbs and then spawned that with poo....he didn't have enough poo for his other casing and all he got on the one w/o was several tiny wanna be pins and lots of green mossy stuff....which wasn't a contam....he didn't harm the other casing and it just looked really really strange....but point is, w/o poo, he got nothing...Gl

Not all cyans are wood lovers . Those that are not can just be cased , but one may not get the results they want i.e. size of fruits .
Someone added a link somewheres in this post I think.. and it covers fruiting without use of bulk subs like straw and such .It mentioned best results from spawning to some sort of dung and or straw . Check it out it will explain much better than I can .
I am trying to absorb all I can , I want to try some of the non wood prefering cyans myself .

Here is the link I mentioned .. it was ARP who posted it .
