Close your jars?!

Some people say you should close your jars after inoculation(tape on the holes). What is the best way? Open or closed?

If you used a vermiculite layer on top of your substrate then i'd say take the tape off. This is one step then can be skipped in the process IMO. I havn't yet (knocking on wood) had a jar go bad. Never used tape.

Leave the holes untaped, more breathability this way and I've never had contams using a verm barrier.

I disagree with most , IMHO is best and wiser to cover those holes whether you have a verm barrier or not . WHY ?
1# Reduces chances of a contam entering , if a determined enough contam gets in it can possibly penetrate beyond a barrier .
2# The tapes also slows down the escape of much needed moisture for the developing myc , especially if you have a slow grower this really comes into play .
As far as being worried about gas exchanges , use 3M Micropore tape it will breath like a champ , is designed to keep nasties out , and will slow the evaporation of moisture, and is not expensive . It will also hold up during PC\AC process .
Hope this helps , do not mean to put more doubt in your mind , but one should weigh all the possible choices and their outcomes when making a decission .
GL

PS I also feel this should be done prior to and after inoc .

lol, ok, look at it this way, you need a barrier against contams (verm, tyvek, microtape) So, with pf it's best to keep them closed until you have some good colonization happening, then take the tape off, they'll be fine.
But at some point they gotta breathe.
