Iv heard of people innoculating jars of straight verm, could you also succesfully case with straight verm??? or with a small mix say 60/40 or 70/30 coco-coir??? Sorry I just have an abundance of verm and looking for some creative ways to use it up. Post search turned up nothing
also would it be bad to sterilize coco-coir or potting soil in the microwave or should I pasteurize??

Anything is POSSIBLE, but straight verm casing material is very FAR from OPTIMAL

Verm with coir makes a fine casing mix.. you could even get fancy and mix in a little oyster shell as well.
Microwaving casing mixtures works well for me.

I put the casing material in a glass bowl and add plenty of water, cover and microwave for 5 minutes, stir it well and then microwave for another 5 minutes. I squeeze out the extra water as I'm applying the casing.

I've never heard of anyone inoculating straight verm. There would be no nutrients for the mycelium to grow off. That is why people use BRF, Rye Grain, Popcorn, WBS...etc.
60/40 Vermiculite and Coco Coir Casing Tek
Yes you can sterilize casing material in the microwave.
Good luck!~

I heard of it once...dont remember how it turned out but the purpose was for spawn.
I also recommend not using straight verm and doing 70% coir and 30% verm.

how about straight coir (not that i am thinking about doing this, just to ask). or would that be just too hard for the poor mycelium?

Coir is a nutrient rich substance. Therefore it will colonize heavily (overlay) as a casing material. Although it is effective. The key with coir as a casing is to have the proper moisture content when overlay happens. The overlay will cause it to be difficult to add moisture if it's too dry. Although you can take a syringe and some distilled water and inject a cc here and there into the casing to hydrate. I've had good success with coir, but i've been using it for a long time and have my tek down. And yes, straight vermiculite is fine for a casing.

Time to prove them all wrong... haha These are from my current grow going on right now. First 2 casings first flushes equaled 36 grams dry, off 100% verm. 2nd flush is going now and all I see is green, everywhere. I had done some research and found out 100% verm for some reason is attracted to green mold. Owell atleast I got one flush out of it.

same here, my first verm cased casing had a great first flush, but then the green went everywhere in just a matter of a few days
