Compost Tea vs. Local Pond Water

An acquaintance of a guy I met on the train recently decided to experiment with compost tea (CT) rather than the usual local pond water (PW) in preparation of PF-style jars.

He said this guy put the CT in a quart mason jar and put it in the pressure cooker for 50 minutes. He then used it as normal water in his jars and pressure cooked them for 45 minutes prior to innoculation. The PW is typically not pre-sterilized.

4 out of 6 of the CT jars show blue/green contamination. The PW jars are uncontaminated. He said that next time this guy was going to boil the CT rather than pressure cook it and see if that kills the blue/green creepies.

That train is a great way to meet people, huh?
