Brain dominance
    #3721157 - 02/02/05 10:08 PM (12 years, 4 months ago)

People who are dominant in the left half of the brain will write with there right hand and the opposite is true with people who are dominant in the right half. And there are some people who are mixed, and will switch between hands when writing or painting.

The right and left have of the brain are also associated with different abilities, depending on the dominent half you may tend to be better at math... or better at art.

Now seeing that the dominant half can go to determine whether you are more scientific or artistic AND it also affects the opposite side or your body... if you raised a child to be right handed and to do all the things that a left dominate brain would do, could you make the child grown up to be more scientific or artistic?

no. studies have shown that teaching a child to use one hand over the other seriously fucks them up. they tried this for quite a while with lefties. interesting results. lol

What hand you write with would not have such a profound effect as causing a child to grow into a certain mindset.
IF this is true- what benefit would it be to be a 'dominant left brain' , and why do the majority of people write right handed. Is this a matter of natural selection, or is this a cultural implication implemented by school and the government cultural acceptance.
From what I hear, children usually try both and write which they are best with. Although I imagine in some countries it is taught to only use the right hand.
As far as classifying anybody as right or left minded, that is hard to say.. I would think most 'normal' people would have a healthy balance of both.
What exactly are the left minded characteristics?

where do you get ur info? shroomhermit? you are mistaken about brain dominance..just a little. brain dominance affects gender or should i say gender affects brain dominance. and gender has nothing to do with what hand one uses to write..if so then hermaphrodites would all be ambidextreous.

gender affects brain dominance? In what way? It's not like males are left-brained and females are right-brained.
I'm left-handed, myself, but I think I tend to be more left-brain oriented...good w/ math and logic, etc.
But if we were going to say gender influences brain dominance, it would seem to follow that most MALES would be left-brain oriented and FEMALES, right-brain oriented. Are they? I dunno, I tend to run into more male lefthanders (right-brained) than female.

My teacher was talking about lefthanders earlier today, since she is one and the artist we were talking about was as well...she said lefthanders have a tendency to die in strange situations. Can anyone attest to this?

women are more left, and men more right. it's determined at the time when the baby (it) drops it's nuts or they receed..becoming male or female.
when this happens at the very same time..this "goo" is released over either primarily the left side if genitals dont drop and primarily the right side if they do.

the gendered society_by michael s. kimmel

right side=logical thinking, left=creative thinking

Left Brain Functions vs Right Brain Functions

Uses logic Uses feeling
Detail oriented ?Big pictures? oriented

Facts rule
Imaginations rules

Words and language
Symbols and images

Present and past
Present and future

Math and science
Philosophy and religion

Order/pattern perception
Spatial perception

Knows object name
Knows object function

Reality based
Fantasy based

Forms strategies
Presents possibilities

Practical
Impetuous

Safe
Risk taking

Here is a self test to help you identify your brains hemispheric dominence.
http://brain.web-us.com/brain/braindominance.htm

My proposition is that if right handed people are dominant in the left, and the left handed people are dominant in the right... and taking into account that brain dominance also affects a whole spectrum of you think... that perhaps stimulation of a certain half of the brain while growing up (and I only used right hand vs left hand, there are many more physical attributes that could be controlled) could make THAT half the dominant one. You brain has the abilty to order itself dynamically. A blind person can develope greater hearing, people with crippling mental disorders can be savants in certain areas. If only we could stimulate a certain hemisphere IN SOME WAY and be able to make a child grow up to be more of a logical or more of a creative thinker.

I'm left handed, and by your description I seem to be a typical left hand man.

Im a left handed, and according to that site im also right brain dominated.  I can do most things with both hands, even write with both hands at the same time.  This took practice though, being a lefty in our society MAKES you learn to use your right hand .. but by nature im more comfortable with my left hand.  Not to long ago left handed people weren't accepted at all, students were not allowed to use their left hand.

Check out the first three names of this list, perhaps this is why people used to think of lefties as sinister?  haha

Here is a list of famous left handers:

Alexander the Great
Napoleon Bonaparte
Charlemagne
George Bush Sr.
Hans Christian Andersen
Aristotle

I could probably make a big impressive list of right-handers, but since I'm right-handed, I'm too lazy

These people suck. Great contributions, lefties.

Also, many of the historical figures seem very shifty. How the hell do we know all these people are left-handed? Like Jack the Ripper? Nobody even knows who he was! Ramses II? Right. I call bullshit.
