Humidification worry
    #3720861 - 02/02/05 09:32 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

Greetings all, this is my first post on the shroomery and I just wanted to say that the resources here are incredible, keep up the good work. On to my question: I'm following the PF cake growing procedure, and the cakes are almost ready to go into the terrarium. I just finished setting up the terrarium and humidification (cool mist humidifier with several pop bottles.) I wanted to test it out, so I put the hum. on for awhile to make sure air was getting through. Problem is, the air flow into the terrarium was very weak, and after leaving it on for about an hour I saw no mist forming anywhere, no water droplets, nothing. I'm guessing this would not provide enough humidity for my cakes? So if I can't fix the current setup should I try using the humidifier hooked straight to the terrarium and hope that works, or should I just forget the humidifier and use another source of humidity (perlite, etc.) Thank you for any feedback.

Welcome

I don't play with humidifiers, but I'm going to take a guess here that the pop bottles are a reduction system of some sort? You could be losing alot of humidity traveling through all those pop bottles-possibly try reducing the amount of travel in your bottle/air line to increase the humidity.

Do you have a hygrometer? (RH meter) Very useful in twinking your setup. Perlite is an option but it's messy and a general pain to work with. Look into geolite.
