MESHUGGAH
    #3718187 - 02/02/05 10:17 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I was trying to explain to BigNerd what they sounded like the other day and I couldn't come up with a good explanation. How do you describe them other than loud?

I've been listening to them more and more and I really like their drummer. He's definitely up there with Danny Carrey in my opinion. I saw Meshuggah live on the Lateralus tour when they opened for Tool and I must say...wow...

Lamb of God doesn't compare to Meshuggah at all.

Meshuggah is odd timed chaos. It sounds like a load of noise, but taking a closer listen reveals there is a whole lot going on that revolves around each musician. They are truly a unique band in the world of metal. That being said, the only way to fully get an idea of their sound is to give them a listen.

If you're going to give them a good listen, start out with "Chaosphere."

yeh, chaos sums it up nicely :smirk:

they have a few songs I think are really cool (new millenium cyanide christ, neurotica), but the majority of what I've heard from them i didn't really care for.

One of the things that makes meshuggah cool is that their music, while harsh, reflects deep awareness of the ethnogenic experiences.

Meshuggah is like one of those bad trips you gain a lot from. It's very harsh and unpleasant but you take a lot away from it if you approach it in the right way.

Indeed. I've found myself thinking similar thoughts.

Si. This is the kind of thinking that also makes me appreciate Einsturzende Neubauten, Skinny Puppy, Coil, and other old school industrial.

Haha, yeah the NMCC video is pretty funny. The look on Haakes face cracks me up, also Thordendal's two hand tapping air guitar solo.

"I" was improved? I had no idea, that is crazy. Where did you find that out?

And yeah, Special Defects is a great cd too, very tripped out. If you're looking heavy music that goes into a bad trip experience or whatever someone said above, that is definitely a cd to check out.

I haven't listened to them in a while. It's kind of hard to listen to a band once they break into the mainstream and people like my brother (fan of everything on radio and mtv: drowning pool, nickelback, slipknot to name a few) start listening to them. I think it was great that they were on Ozzfest and opened up for Tool, exposing them to a wider audience.. but unfortunately, the fanbases of Tool and Ozzfest tend to be jocktards who aren't into the music for the music's sake, but because "THAY FUKKIN ROK, DOOD!" Nothing against Tool at all. I like their music, even though I haven't listened to them in a while. Plus, they also had Fantomas and Tomahawk open up for them as well, which would have been great if I'd gotten to see them!

That being said, I'm looking forward to seeing Morbid Angel, Cryptopsy (3 times!) and Behemoth/Nile opening up for King Diamond  <-:whatever:
