More pan. subbs
    #371083 - 08/13/01 01:40 PM (20 years, 2 months ago)

I've been finding at least 1 more mushroom everyday, most of them have been small. Found 2 monsters today.

The monsters... got there a little late...doubt I'll eat these guys.. no bugs thou

Size comparison

A small one... damned auto focus didn't work :\

Heres some unidentified mushrooms that are growing all over the back yard.

If you want to identify them, go for it.

Peace out,
Gumby

I was looking at GGs new identification website earlier today. I reconized a suprising resemblence to GG's pics of Pan. Castafanolies(sp?). Only prob is My shrooms have a tan/light brown gils... So what'd ya think, could they be sometype of pans? They're small.. about an inch to 2 inches at the most when cap is fully open.

Peace Out,
-Gumby

Well the top two look as thought they could be panaeolus subbalteatus becasue of the long vertical groves in the length of the stem. However, they are rotting and I wouldn't personally pick damaged mushrooms, only the healthiest get picked. If they are too old or worm ridden than leave them be.

mj

Well THere are more than 28 species of Panaeolus and only a few have psilocybine in them. If the gills are a light tan brown than most likely they are probably Panaeolina foenisecii Maire, a non-psychoactive species. Panaeolus gills are black with light white edges.

have a shroomy day.

Have a shroomy day and may all of your days be shroomy.

Heh, I always find box turtles while searching for fungus :) I find snappers too at the weilii patch, its next to a giant swamp, all kinds of creatures make their way into my patch from that swamp.

Those are definately Pan. subbs. Have you gotten any to show blue yet?? I've found 3 subbs this entire year that actually displayed a bluing reaction. Have you tried any yet? I'm betting that those found in compost are a bit more potent than those found on horse dung/straw.

Hang around in chat a bit tonight. I'm going to be in there around 7pm or so. I'd like to set up a meet sometime either this week, or upcoming weekend. I have an open house this weekend, and your more than welcome to come visit. We'll hit my subb field just down the street and maybe swing by a weilii patch.

Anyways, keep in touch. And keep picked those subbs. Your finding some nice bigs ones, much bigger than the ones I find.

::sigh:: I'm gonna be working tonight untill about 9:30pm.. If you could hang around in the chat room till about 9:30 that would be great, if not I'll PM ya.

I have seen some bluing on the subbs, unfortunately that huge batch I picked didn't dry out fast enough and started to smell HORIBLE.. so I tossed em out. I haven't gotten a chance to try them out yet because I dont have enough =\

I am going to pick up some dessicant at home depot today.
I have seen the bluing reaction on the mycelial mats of almost all the shrooms I picked.. it was not a huge reaction but I could tell it was bluish... I'm looking for the base of those big shrooms that I saved, it showed bluing, I'll scan it if i ever find it.

Peace out,
-Gumby

I can see it, only because I've seen the same thing before though. Its hard to spot bluing, very faint, but its there. Thats classical subb mycelium all matted up and cottony. I find huge blotches of this mycelium all over my subb field, just not to much fruiting going on yet.
